so i saw this cat on pinterest, the caption claimed it was an amber tabby, but a commenter (who apparently runs a cattery?) said it was a smoke because "amber tabbies don't have black noses"

but those stripes look way too defined to be smoke to me, and i've seen other sources claim that a black nose is a defining feature of amber tabbies? so what color is that cat

also i found another tabby with a black nose but this one doesn't look like any ambers i've seen do you know what it is by chance

The first one is a solid (aa) amber, not a tabby. Its name is Kingsley, and here's the original picture on instagram. (Amber is like red, solids are very strongly ghostmarked, and the black nose is a defining feature of solid ambers.) I don't think it's a smoke, the colors are consistent with regular amber, and amber smokes are usually softer and cooler toned.

Ironically your second cat is actually an amber smoke, Krusmons Golden Gate. Probably photographed young while the color is still in development.

This is the difference between a tabby and a solid amber.

This is Patsy. The vet asked what colour(s) she was before her first appointment, and all I could think to say was, "most of them?"

ANOTHER SMOKE TORTOISESHELL HAS HIT THE INBOX!!!!! Patsy is such a darling black smoke tortoiseshell with low white! I absolutely adore looking at these cats, the mixture of smoke ghost patterning and cameo tortoiseshell stripes is just, MWAH chefs kiss.

Darkstripe - Black smoke

When I was in elementary school, I watched warrior cats fun fact videos and one said that Darkstripe had an ear flopped over like a dog due to how tattered it was. But when I looked for that, I couldn't find it anywhere. Does anyone know where this came from??

I think that's a fun idea to translate into my own Darkstripe design. Dogs are loyal and Darkstripe certainly is to Tigerstar.

Golden gene.

Golden is the result of wide banding without inhibitor, wide banding and inhibitor cause silver(which looks just like golden but grey/silver). Golden is more visible on darker colours. The alleys are: WB(wide banding) and wb(no wide banding).

I can't find anything about ultra wideband smokes... Do you have any example pictures? Also in one post you mention pigment polygenes, how does that look like?

I will direct you to the Messybeast page for this one, since they've got a nice example! They're hard to find otherwise, since they're usually smokes from chinchilla bloodlines.

The pigment polygenes are theoretical polygenes which affect the lightness or darkness of solid coats and stripes on tabby cats. Since these seem to be heritable and on a scale, it made sense to make up some polygenes for them. These days I use a scale from 1-6, with 6 being the darkest. There is an old chart I made floating around somewhere, here's a piece of it for an example:
