As I promised, here is an update on my summer progress so far! Progress on Inhuman Being has been going well, even though I've started my summer class. I did have to push the deadline back by a few days, but this time I'm confident that I will meet it. And then I can finally call this beautiful project a written and edited novel! (Unfortunately, as any writer knows, our work is never, ever "done," but we can sure get close.)
My summer class is one that I've been excited for since I saw it was offered: Young Adult Literature. I was surprised that the university offered it, since YA Lit doesn't seem to get a lot of attention in academic circles, but when I found out I specifically bent my schedule around it to make sure I got to take it before I graduate this fall (therefore, summer school). I'm really interested in YA Lit, not just because I love to write it but because I think the entire "genre," if it can be called a genre, is fascinating. It hasn't really been around long, and it's still kind of the awkward middle child between juvenile literature and adult literature. Everyone understands picture books are for young children and books with lots of big words and no pictures are for adults, but what about YA Lit, stuck right in between? I'm not going to go on too long about this because I'm very likely to write a complete blog post about it at some point in the future, but there are just a few of my thoughts for you to consider. I think it's fascinating!
