pearl of great price
you close, unhappy like a clam,
afraid that we will see the sand and rough particles
pulled inside you by insistent currents
And you miss the way we appreciate
what you built on it
In the eyes of Christ
you are the pearl of great price
You are human, and dark, and flawed
But you are broken
You are beautiful
You are beloved
On your flaws you built strength
On your pride you built grace
And on your fear you built loyalty
And in the darkness you remind me
It is not what you are born to
It is not what you are bent to
It is not what you’re destined to
It is not even what you choose
But it’s what Christ calls you
I don’t think
there are any demons
I would refuse to fight with you
