Hey! I felt like taking a break from scripting the first rival video so I quickly decided to draw my redesigns for these two! Some of the earliest characters in the game - Sakyu and Inkyu Basu. Here’s what I did to them!
So, for simplicity, let's quickly cover their renaming. I decided to call them Saku Basugi (咲 馬杉) and Inko Basugi (韻子 馬杉). I chose these names cause they were the real Japanese names I could find that were closest to their original names. I was originally considering Saku and Ibuki Mitsuhara, but I ditched them cause they had too many syllables and didn't sound as fun to say? Like say Inkyu Basu, and then say Ibuki Mitsuhara. That's why I chose Inko Basugi over that. I also hue shifted them from purple and pink to blue and red to 100% separate them from the Unity models from which they originated.
As for their stories... these two are another pair of yikers. This is because Mr. Else If decided it would be a spectacular idea to add magical fantasy to his high school murder game. This was actually one of the earliest odd lore decisions he made, being in late November 2015. Though, up until this time last year almost, their bios said they were just suspected of being monsters by the Occult Club, so that's what I'm choosing to take inspiration from. We do not need two hundred year old vampires with their own lore and rules to their species in this shit. It's simply unnecessary. Honestly, I think it all comes from PedoDev spending so long on this game that he writes other things to avoid boredom and just tacks it onto this already bloated project. 2 centuries of monster lore? Sure, why not? A World War 2 AU Mulan fanfiction? Who's gonna stop me? It just isn't necessary.
So what inspiration is there to glean from these two girls? A few things. First of all, they have a close relationship with each other. They rely on each other heavily and feel miserable without one another. Secondly, they're looking for their mother. Obviously ingame this is in the literal sense, but metaphorically this can be reinterpreted as a longing for a maternal figure that isn't present, whether by her own volition or not. They also don't have a dad, which is why they rely on each other. So, this is what I've whipped up with this information.
Saku and Inko Basugi are twin sisters. For some inexplicable reason, everyone who meets their family feels vaguely uncomfortable with them. Some conspiracy theorists and staunch believers in the supernatural think they are secretly centuries-old monsters, but of course, those are just ridiculous rumours. Rumours can have great effects though, as their lives were quickly marked with tragedy when soon after their birth, their father was killed by one of these supernatural fanatics. Their mother was heartbroken at this loss, and was often neglectful of the twins growing up, as she focused on herself. This led Saku and Inko to grow up very reliant on each other. They grew up seeking maternal love and getting none, so they settled on each other being the other's rock. Saku, the more intelligent and sensible sister, had ambitions of great things for the two of them without needing any help from their mother, so they aimed for the top, enrolling in Buraza Sakura High School at age 16, joining as first years. They conquered high school as a double threat - Inko, the more bouncy, talkative sister, leading the way in socialising, while Saku organised studies for them both. While some admired their efforts, no one ever pursued becoming their friends - with the exception of the Mythology Club, who were very interested in the sisters, and tried to get them to join. When they were approached, they saw a side of the sisters no one else had. While their few social interactions were always friendly, this was different. Their smiles dropped from their faces, and they were looked at with nothing but contempt. Saku turned them down before the club president could even get a word in. This led to some rumours spreading around school, especially with some of those obsessed with the mysterious being the parents of some of Buraza Sakura's students. The sisters ignored this, though, and simply continued on as they were.
Sorry if that was way too long and rambly! It's a pitfall I come across too often; I start writing and just can't stop. But that's the end of this post! Sorry it wasn't a start on the first rival, but trust me, I'm hard at work on writing bios for this tumblr, and writing the scripts for their YouTube video. On the topic of that - the Basugi sisters won't be getting a video yet. My priority is on the first rival (unlike someone), and probably after that video, I'll draw some more randoms and give them a video. But thanks for reading! Have a great day! or night considering it's now 10pm for me lmao
btw if youve seen this post before and feel like the basugi sisters look different its bc i slightly updated their drawings ok thx
