Lantern Sphinx (Nymph)

My best attempt at mimicking plastiboo's wonderful style [check out their tumblr here]. Process explanation below the cut.

After painting, I added a noise layer (at ~20% opacity), a posterize layer (10 colors), and two different gradient maps (one for the legs and one for the exoskeleton). I also added a level correction layer, since the noise layer flattened out the contrast. The texture in the background is some close-up photos that I took of some pancakes :)

The actual monster is based on the peanut-headed lanternfly (Fulgora laternaria) some other planthopper nymphs. I really tried to make the wax "tail" something spooky, but nothing really worked, alas.
