The More Common Tiger

A Plain Tiger (Danaus alcippoides) drinking from a Rattleweed (Crotalaria retusa) on the southern bank of the Marina Reservoir. This butterfly is the more common of the two forms. The other, the Danaus chrysippus, has orange rather than white hind wings.

This was taken at the equivalent focal length of 1200 mm. The nice thing about the Leica V-lux 4 used here was that this could be captured in raw and wide open at f/2.8.

The Grey Pansy

This is said to be the rarest of the four pansies found here and was once spotted mainly on a small island off the northeastern coast.
