I'm not sure there is anyone here who knows both ST and Inside Lapenko but the realisation I just had is killing me

Anyway I can highly recommend Inside Lapenko if you like weird retro tv vibes, it's one of my comfort shows :D It's a webseries on YouTube, don't think it has an English dub but the first two seasons have good subtitles at least. It's so peak and everyone is played by the same actor

Spoiler warning:

To make it worse, both pairs don't end up together because the so-called knight/paladin ends up in a mental prison in some way, figuratively or literally. The Engineer in Inside Lapenko ends up drawing away from Zina, his colleague who likes him and whom he clearly likes too, because he has this lady who's supposed to arrive in the city soon – he brings her up all the time for three seasons but she never actually shows up. At the very end he goes to meet her at the train station and walks away talking to her, when it's revealed that she isn't actually real and he just believes she is (the fourth season which is a prequel then shows that she's based on the memory of a girl he met when he was a kid at summer camp)
