A few pieces from the incredible Galloway Viking Hoard, excavated in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland in 2014. It is the largest and rarest Viking hoard found to date, consisting of over 100 pieces of various gold and silver jewelry and artifacts. Dating back to the 10th century and some pieces date even earlier, a lot of what was found has never been discovered before. There were 2 layers in which the treasure was discovered, the first layer consisted of silver armlets and ingots. The second layer beneath that was much richer, twice the amount of gold and silver arm rings and ingots, and a giant (possibly Christian looted) vessel filled to the brim with various treasured objects and Anglo-Saxon disc brooches that have never been found in Scotland before. After much debate and petition on where the hoard should be displayed, it is now currently on temporary display at the National Museum of Scotland until this October. This may change as there is still a petition in place to keep it where it was discovered, in Kirkcudbright. My hope is that wherever this beautiful treasure from the past ends up, it is conserved properly by the most qualified team and that everything is kept together, to help us to continue to learn and unlock some more mysteries of our Scottish Vikings past. Oh how I wish to see this hoard in person! ⚔️ . . #midgaarb #gallowayvikinghoard #inspiredbytheoldways #vikinggarb #vikingreenactment #paganpride #paganism #historicalclothing #viking #vikings #heathen #vikingpride #asatru #asatruar #odinism #shieldmaiden #vikingwarrior #mjolnir #thorshammer #odin #vikingmetal #heathens #knotwork #yggdrasil #pagan #pagansofinstagram #vikingsofinstagram #gameofthrones #norsemythology #lotr
