Controversial opinion but the algorithm is making you stupid, less empathetic and evil. Hear me out: people these days are obsessed with perfecting their algorithm so that it only shows them content that aligns with their interests and world view. A lot of people take great pride in this, even.
So here is my question:
how are you gonna grow as a person if every piece of information you come across reinforces your beliefs? If you never have to interact with opinions you don't agree with? If you never get to see what life is like for others who are outside of your algorithm circle? I understand the need to ignore stuff because the news, especially online, at times gets too much but do not let ignoring turn into ignorance. Every now and again seek experiences outside of your comfort zone, seek life outside of your aesthetic, listen to people who do not look or sound like you. Do not let the algorithms designed by big evil corporations feed into your biases and use you to inflate their already huge pockets.
