Taranto (Apulia). Sant’Andrea of the Armenians. Altar. Church of medieval times, was damaged by war events and rebuilt in 1573. Ever devoted to the Armenians, present in the square Monteoliveto, in the ancient quarter, as in all of Puglia. It is a symbol of the great vocation and opening of the city to different cultures and cults. In 1980 the Commune worked for a conservative restoration of the church, remain unfinished. Since 2011, neighborhood residents have decided to reopen the church for public benefit. The official reopening is from 2012, hampered by the municipal authority. Citizens then create the Domus Armenorum group, for the shared management of the widespread and abandoned public cultural heritage, for an integrated enhancement. Since then, residents of the square have taken care of the church, making it enjoyable and welcoming at their own expense. The church thus becomes of tourist interest, for visitors and citizens, and incubator of cultural projects and social and sustainable tourism. The church today is a laboratory of large and small cultural activities. It is a commendable initiative that the authorities responsible for the safeguarding of cultural heritage often neglect them in a disgusting way. My passage to the church on June 25 two years ago. The day the church was guarded by a girl, she explained the story to me. The church offered a service to the neighborhood, the kids could take advantage of wi.fi., tourists could have a map of the city... An emotional commitment, we hope durable... Old Taranto is exciting, deserves a return for a more careful and meticulous visit. #travel #traveling #vacation #visiting #instatravel #instago #instagood #trip #holiday #fun #travelling #tourism #tourist #instapassport #instatraveling #mytravelgram #travelgram #travelingram #igtravel #puglia #igerstaranto #instataranto #taranto #armenian #taranto_in #santandrea #armenia #massimopistis #sovVERSIvi #ilmiolibro @domusarmenorum
