Blep
Hello hello hello, I wish to do a massive rant about the upcoming series of doctor who and my theories (or lack thereof).
Contains some spoilers for Lux and The Well.
I think I'm a little to obsessed with this picture
About Bakugou's Hero Name
We still don't know what Bakugou's hero name is and I was thinking about possibilities and came to one conclusion...
Here are some hints about why his name might be Kacchan:
1. Manga Titles
Horikoshi is very specific when choosing the manga chapter titles. For the first fight between Midoriya and Bakugou, the title is Deku vs. Kacchan
The same title is used for their second fight in chapter 119: Deku vs. Kacchan, Part 2
You could argue that here, their childhood names are being used because the fights have an emotional meaning to them and their childhood is explored during their fights.
However, Horikoshi switches between hero names and civilian names depending on the context of the chapters, so this case does not just apply to the fights between Midoriya and Bakugou.
For instance, in chapter 171 the title is Gentle and La Brava, but in chapter 176 instead of Gentle’s cilvilian name, Horikoshi chose Gentle’s hero name “Gentle Criminal”. The title of chapter 176 is Deku Vs. Gentle Criminal, which implies that it is a fight between two heroes, same as when Midoriya and Bakugou fight as heroes (as Deku and Kacchan).
In contrast, in chapter 49, instead of Deku, the title is Midoriya and Shigaraki, which represents the characters as non-heroes.
2. The Future Heroes
There is no doubt that Midoriya, Todoroki and Bakugou will be big heroes in the future, if not the top three.
Midoriya and Todoroki have already chosen their hero names and both have chosen names that are either their first name (Shouto), or a name that is derived from their first name (Deku). The kanji for their names fit perfectly to what they both want to represent as heroes:
焦 (Shou = burn) and 凍 (to = freeze)
出 (Izu =leave; can also be read as „De“) and 久 (ku = old story), here the first kanji is read differently in order to get „Deku“, which sounds like the japanese verb „dekiru“ meaning „to be able to“. This is what Midoriya wants to represent as hero.
For Bakugou, he wanted some names that were flashy, but they were rejected.
Since his first name is Katsuki: Katsu (勝 = to win) and ki (己 = self), it is not far fetched that he would choose a name that represents himself and his desire to win. There is also the advice Best Jeanist gave Bakugou, which certainly helped him realize what he desires most (to be a hero who never looses instead of a hero who is explosive).
“Katsu” is part of “Kacchan” and it is derived from his first name.
3. Fighting As Kacchan
This panel from chapter 251:
Midoriya actively calls Todoroki by his hero name “Shouto”, while he calls Bakugou “Kacchan”. Yes, he always calls him that but the fact that we have the image of Todoroki as the hero “Shouto” here (plus the fact that they are switching to their hero gear right after), might be a hint for Bakugou's hero name, who is currently fighting as a hero with the others.
I ... am a genius!
