Fan Fic 20 Questions: Under the cut!
1. What’s your screenname and where do you publish?
CES479 is my screen name, and I publish on Ao3. I have published a little on FF, but I just like the interface of Ao3 better. And its kind of a pain to upload a story to two places.
4. Is this your first fandom? If not, what other have you written for?
It’s not, but I only started writing fanfiction about a year ago! I first wrote Dragon Age stories.
5.Quick synopsis?
It’s a story following the events of Fallout 4 with my Sole Survivor, Addison. Plus some of my canon additions, and a slow-burn romance between Addison and Danse.
6. Canon or Alternative Universe?
Mostly canon, but I do take certain liberties with the plot! Especially later in the game, which I haven’t gotten to yet.
7. Rating?
It’s mature. There will be one NSFW scene, though its not too explicit.
8. Pairings?
Sole Survivor x a grumpy tin can.
9. Inspiration for the story?
I really like writing fanfiction based on video games because the games themselves are such great inspiration. RPGs are so vast, and there are so many events an author can cover, and lots of characters to work with as well.
More specifically, I loved Danse’s character arc, and his entire story line, so working with that has been a lot of fun. Both Danse and Addison undergo a lot of transformation in the story.
10. Theme of your story?
I think the biggest theme is about self-discovery, especially Addison and Danse finding out how they are and being comfortable with that.
11. What does your planning process look like?
I think about it a lot, just letting the ideas and scene swim around in my head, and then I make an outline of each chapter. Sometimes that outline is subject to change, but it normally stays pretty close to what I originally envision. And then I just sit down to write the chapter! After that, I like to let what I wrote rest for a while before I revise it, so I can come back with fresh eyes.
12. Biggest change in your story from the planning stage to final form?
Probably the ending. I’ve been playing around with what to do, and my ideas have changed a lot. I won’t give away any spoilers :)
13. Favorite character to write?
I like writing Danse! Addison is fun, too, she’s a bit more emotive and honest with herself. Other than that, I like writing Piper.
14. Favorite chapter to write?
Definitely the events surrounding Blind Betrayal, which I haven’t gotten to yet, but I’m eagerly awaiting it.
15. Most difficult or challenging chapter to write?
I would say Blind Betrayal again, honestly. It will be challenging to capture those feelings authentically, and its really the pinnacle of Danse’s story arc, so I want to get it perfect, which I doubt I’ll do!
16. Your favorite moment in the story?
Hm, that’s tough! Really saying good things about myself or what I’ve written is tough. I liked when Danse finally noticed Addison’s hair color. It was fun to write from his perspective, him realizing that he saw her as more than a soldier, which hasn’t happened to him often.
17. Are any of your characters OCs?
Addison is my original character. She was a lot of fun to create because she’s different from other characters I’ve created before!
18. Which of your characters/chapters are most similar to yourself?
I don’t create OC’s to replicate my own personality or appearance. I like to stretch my creativity by thinking of someone completely different, with a unique mix of personality features. I’m probably the most like Danse. I’m an INTJ, so overall I’m pretty serious and logical and I follow rules rather than my own emotions.
19. What advice would you give to authors just starting fanfic?
Research and editing are really important elements of writing realistically and clearly. And to me, the key to improving as a writer is to practice, practice, practice!
20. What authors would you like to tag to learn more about their stories?
i have a million books on my bookshelf that i want to read so badly but instead i lay in bed and watch tv shows and movies with characters who read a million books.
