‘that’s b, actually.’ roman said with a smug smile, pointing at callie’s homework as he passed by the hufflepuf table. ‘if it was a you’d explode something, not set it on fire.’ he had stopped walking, but not just to be a know-it-all, he’d actually come over to steal some of the pancakes from the hufflepuf table, as breakfast at the ravenclaw table was running out fast. ‘and the next answer is c, just saying.’

roman leaving a party early? early enough that he wasn’t even drunk yet? miracles really did happen. though, of course, callie was part of the decision to leave early. it was cheesy, really. now that they were dating he didn’t really care that much about spending time with anyone else. besides, they were hungry and the snacks had been awful, so of course they ended up at mama dee’s. he held the door open for callie, happy to be welcomed by the warmth of the restaurant after walking over in the cold early spring evening. ‘after you.’ the door shut behind them, and roman was already tugging callie along by her hand to his favorite spot, right by the window with the best view into town. ‘if i don’t get a margarita with extra olives in like 10 minutes i will die from starvation.’

‘nooo, callie listen, listen...’ roman steadied himself while facing callie, before trying to speak again. but as he opened his mouth, he realised he couldn’t remember what he was actually trying to say. instead he looked past callie at the gardens spreading out before them, now empty after closing time. the ending of summer resulted in a mild evening and pretty pink light setting the nature around them ablaze as the sun sank lower and lower. and of course, roman was already drunk. ‘alright i was just gonna say that... this is a bad idea. and i don’t like to be scolded by managers like last time, but also i can’t let you do this alone... so lead the way?’ he wasn’t sure if that was actually what he was going to say before, but it was what he wanted to say now. truth be told, he’d probably follow callie anywhere, but that seemed like a bit too heavy of a sentiment to express right now. he opted for something more lighthearted. ‘where are we going exactly?’

roman had only left callie’s side very briefly, but instantly couldn’t find his way back to her. he wasn’t even sure if it was just that callie had moved, or that every hallway in this damned building looked just like the other. only now it dawned on him how little he really ventured into parts of the resort that weren’t the bar or the lobby. and of course, just when he needed his phone the most, it was dead. at least callie seemed to have the common sense to go to brad’s office and have their resort-dad announce that roman had to get his ass to the office as well, like a little kid losing his parents at the grocery store. see, the office was a place he knew how to find. ‘oh my god, there you are.’ he said dramatically when he entered the room, seeing callie’s face. okay, he might be acting a tad bit theatrical, but it really was a relief to see her again. ‘you disappeared. where the fuck did you go?’
