there’s a dread that washes over him every year when the clock strikes midnight on his birthday, yet a calmness that follows. the dread appears with the urgent reminder that he’s getting older. the calmness is close behind with the reminder that he’s made it another year. and he was better now. ( or perhaps that’s a lie he likes to tell himself ). a notable self-sabotager ; he’ll build walls between him and his loved ones just when shit is getting good. connor doesn’t know why, he hasn’t gotten to that part yet. he’s only at the guilt-ridden part of growth (again) that leads him to standing outside of mattie’s door. (again).
he should have warned her he was coming but it was too late as his knuckles had already thumped on the door of her apartment. fully aware of the NOW OR NEVER opportunity, he waits, an exhale releasing the breath he didn’t realize he was holding. / @mattiehqs
