“12 Boxes From Pixie Hollow” — A New Quiz Show
You might ask “Wait, where are the boxes?” I’ll make them later. This is a frame from our recent live game about Disney Fairies (in Russian). The experiment went turbulent, but it worked. You may still take a quick look at the video even if you don’t speak Russian—just to get a quick feeling of what’s going on.
Now, my team and I would like to create a similar quiz show for our English-speaking followers and friends. We haven’t decided yet, how exactly the original game should be changed, but the basic idea is simple:
In each round, a team of several players listens to a tricky question (watches a video clip, takes a look at a picture, listens to a music clip etc.).
The team has one minute to brainstorm the question. Everyone should share any ideas, while the captain decides what guess is the best.
The team answers the question and scores if the answer is correct.
What kind of questions will be asked?
Only those that can be answered using your logic, imagination, wit and creativity. Obviously, some general knowledge is required, but there won’t be any stupid questions like: “Who was the director of the film X?” Just no! If there is no way to solve a puzzle without specific knowledge, that’s not cool.
Besides, the participants will play online, and it would be silly asking anything that could be found in Google quickly. Let me give you an example of such question:
“There is a famous fairy-tale in Pixie Hollow. The main characters are: Caltario, Aklanto, Nauello, Seuery, Mamyrio, Mausym, Shildero, Tamyzzy, Kyrkulio, Kazario, Rasharello and Szelkostanio. What’s the name of the story?”
Give this puzzle a try. Think about it. And don’t even bother googling it. A minor spoiler: I made those names up. And now let me show you how a team brainstorm might go:
“A famous story?”—“Do you know any of these names?”—“Seuery, Aklanto... No! No idea!”—“Try to read them backwards!”—“Otnalka... doesn’t make much sense.”—“Maybe the first letter of each one helps?”—“C, a, n, s, m... Doesn’t ring the bell. Are those fairies or people?”—“Guys, don’t waste time! We are not supposed to know them!”—“It must be a big story with so many characters.”—“Wait! How many? Count them!”—“1, 2, 3... twelve.”—“Twelve what? Gnomes, piggies?”—“What can twelve be? What do we know?”—“Twelve hours?”—“Hours don’t have names!”—“Of course! It’s twelve months!”
“Let me answer then. Mr quizmaster, we’re ready! Its name is ‘Twelve Months’ or maybe ‘A year’.”
And that would be a correct answer!
To make this game happen, we need a team of players.
Write in the notes, whether you’d like to take part in this game. We’ll open a thread on our forum later.
Yours sincerely,
Scorpy and the team of “Wonders of Reality”
