it was the blue box that gave him away. she hadn’t seen him yet, but his tardis was basically a calling card at this point. and if the doctor was there, then her experiments were at risk. “doctor, come out from wherever you’re hiding. this isn’t hide and seek.”

oh. him. there was no other explanation with that look. nuisance number one; she could only hope that the second one wouldn’t be close behind him. she’d enjoyed her time without the doctor stumbling into her experiments. his disapproval didn’t do anything but make her more annoyed at the entire situation. “you’re alive. amazing. wonderful. get out of my laboratory.”

“who sent you?” gallifrey shouldn’t be able to reach her, considering the time lock and her own faked death. but here she was, a young, fresh faced time lady. there was something oddly familiar about her, just enough to rankle the rani. “no one is meant to know i’m here.”

“acquire a subpar sentient to serve as a lab assistant until they inevitably got themselves killed messing up an experiment.” she has her own projects to see to, of course, but they’re in the observation stages. she has the time to lend to another version of herself - there is no one more deserving of her time.
