  Kronos had to speak three little words that held so much power and pain in them, ones that would frequent her thoughts of the past. She would lying if she said she felt the opposite but could she even reveal the truth? She feared saying anything remotely neutral toward her husband would urge others to attack her. How could miss the monster that destroyed their chances at being a whole family? Few knew the bond Rhea and Kronos shared; words could not explain it. They felt their connection in their presence and together, they were at their strongest. 

  Together, everything felt...right. Time flowed and there was order. She could even feel that again before him. It was a comforting sensation she longed for. The irony of the titan goddess of ease and comfort desperately seeking such a feeling as she gifted it to others so easily. She missed that feeling...she missed him despite everyone saying she shouldn’t. Even she did but now of that mattered in that moment. 

  They were alone with one another and no one watching their every move and word. She could be honest without the fear of judgement. Only Kronos would know and only he should be concerned with what she was about to say anyway. 

  “And I...I miss you too.” Rhea slowly admitted as her eyes focused solely on the titan.

  Rhea insisted Tethys visit her on Mount Othrys: the home of the king and queen of heaven. It was the seat of power for the royal titans and all of their siblings had at least gone to see them at least once since their crowning. Tethys and Oceanus, however, didn’t take the invitation in a quick manner. Now that they moved far from everyone, to the edge of the world to be exact, they saw their siblings less and less. The married titans wanted to keep to themselves and expand their family in peace even if that meant separating from their brothers and sisters. 

  Mount Othrys didn’t feel like home. Tethys wasn’t used to such opulence, preferring a simple life. Rhea didn’t spare any expense to make everything seem so grand. As much as she loved her sister, she was ready to leave but it would rude departing before at least seeing her youngest brother for a moment. It had to be some kind of protocol to greet the king and she didn’t want to learn if that was true the hard way.

  “Will I have to be formal now that you’re king?” Tethys questioned Kronos once she spotted him. “I can bow my head but I don’t know about curtsying. That is a sight everyone should be spared from.”

  Rhea’s eyes looked away from Kronos, unsure how she should react. She too experienced the same ever since she separated herself from his side to fight alongside their children. He was like a ghost that haunted her and even more so when he imprisoned in the depths of Tartarus. She dreamt of him, memories that made her miss the old days when they were truly happy but also painful betrayals that reminded her of his treachery. 

  Both love and hate swirled inside her when she thought of her husband, one feeling dominating the other every other day. Settling on how to feel about him was impossible for her because she knew the good and bad. The bad should have outweighed the good but it was the good that kept her convincing herself to scorn him forever. Time didn’t make it easier and seeing him before her made it even worse. 

  Rhea’s eyes moved their focus to her husband even though they struggled to look at him, believing this was truly him before her. A part of her wished he was merely a figment of her imagination but his presence and that tension between them was too palpable to dismiss. 

  “The ghosts of our pasts will never leave us alone. They remember everything. They make it hard to move on but we can’t. I haunt you just as much as you haunt me. We can’t forget each other. This is our punishment for betraying each other.”

  “That is putting it too lightly, Kronos,” Rhea objected as she leaned back into her chair. She kept her eyes on him silently as she gently petted Artaxes for comfort. Words could never fully describe how much the titan hurt and disappointed her. She could see each past tragedy in his eyes as if they just happened. She wished they were just nightmares. She wised she was sitting in his lap, looking into his eyes with only love like she used to when they were still king and queen. 

  The love she possessed for her husband died over the years but the feeling was still inside of her, unsure if it could fully emerge again. Could she even trust him again? 

 “That can’t be changed. I only fear you will do so again and not only toward me. But toward our children.”
