  “What is going on, Coeus?” Tethys questioned Coeus with a worried crack in her voice. As with every new pregnancy the titaness had, she always visited Rhea to ensure the growing child(ren)’s health and to eventually learn their sex. But this time, she was shunned away by one of Rhea’s handmaidens who insisted to come back in a few days. Rhea wasn’t seeing anyone which seemed so unlike her...or so she thought.

  Tethys managed to catch a glimpse of her older sister, crouched on the floor of her bedroom and hysterically crying before she was shut out. Her first instinct was to go to Cronus, instantly believing he was to blame for Rhea’s behavior; however, he wasn’t seeing anyone either. So her other option was Coeus, He might have some kind of idea of what happened upon the Mount. Tethys hardly ventured to Othrys, really only for her appointments with Rhea so she often didn’t know the business about the Mount unless someone told her.

  “Rhea’s an emotional mess and Cronus won’t see anyone. The both of them refusing to talk to anyone is concerning...as our siblings and our rulers. Do you know something I don’t?”

  “And you come to me because I have so much experience in that matter, is that it?” Tethys remarked as her eyes traveled around the beach, spotting each of her many sons and daughters enjoying their surroundings in their own ways. 

  “While one would think that would be my domain, your mother is better suited with confirming so or not. It is part of her description. She can practically detect a growing child in a womb from yards away.” But then a strong brown arched, thinking of a possibility. “Unless you don’t want her to know right now?”

“Mother —” she sighed, a shake of her head before she continued. “Had uncle Cronus, Coeus, Crius and Iapetus not organized the coup, you and father and all the other titans would be in Tartarus now. I doubt I would have been born were that the case. Uncle Coeus has explained me all about the war and he has been quite factual about it.” It felt foolish she had to explain this to her mother. She had been there, hadn’t she —  she should know better. 

“I have considered the possibilities. I am confused as to why no one, but uncle Cronus of course, is surrendering. Aunt Phoebe’s prophecies always come true. We all know that. It is a matter of figuring out how to accomplish such a thing. This is my time, mother. Aunt Themis does not have my knowledge nor skill.”

  “And look at where your uncle is now. If he is so factual, he would stay out of this too. But my brothers stick together no matter what...even in ridiculous matters such as this,” Tethys mused as she raised her arms in the air. She hoped they would have followed in her and Oceanus’s footsteps and keep to themselves, but fighting off those who dared tear them down was what bonded them. 

  “Don’t let your aunt know that,” Tethys remarked as her face for once relaxed for a brief moment. She then took a deep breath and sat down on the floor, patting her hand on the ground as a request for Metis to join her. “I know about Phoebe and her gift but it is what happens after this war is over that is what scares me the most. Who knows what your cousins will do once they are in power? What will their reign be like in the future? This family has had two patriarchs they failed their kin and that can very well be repeated again.”

“No need for bribing. She listened to her father because she loves and respects me. Parenting is really that simple.” he smirked, obviously joking. Parenting was exactly was he had expected it to be. It was quite similar to raising his siblings. Styx was almost giving him as much of a hard time as Cronus had at the time. It really was a matter of patience. 

“Well — we have eternity together, darling. I am not expecting to only have two children.” He pointed out, already considering how he could expand the caves. 

  Tethys playfully shook her head in disbelief, following her husband’s joking. There was some truth in that statement at least; raising children came naturally to him since he practically raised their siblings when Gaia wasn’t around. Meanwhile Tethys preferred her own company and she didn’t want any part of acting like a second mother to her youngest sibling: Cronus. She wouldn’t imagine she would ever have children but Oceanus seemed to have change her mind on the matter. 

  “Ah so you bribed her with her own room...I get it now. She loves us so much that she wants to give us our room back. How thoughtful of her,” Tethys chuckled softly as she briefly peered over to their sleeping daughter. Still sound asleep thankfully. 

  “Three then?” Tethys jested as she titled her head to the side childishly. They came from a large family so it was more or less expected to have many children in their line but Tethys was still somewhat unsure if that is what she wanted. Styx was already a handful as it was and with another on the way, who know if this new baby would be the same?

A low, but soft chuckle came from him as he hid his face in the crook of her neck. “Nah, she is not gonna wake up. We made an agreement, you see; she agreed to sleep until sunrise. No more fussing for the night.” 

He sat up, already towering over his wife with his great height. “Besides — this is our room. Perhaps we should finally arrange some kind of nursery. I don’t think it to be a good idea to have all our feature children residing in our chambers.” he pointed out. 

  “Oh, did you now?” Tethys remarked, chuckling gently. “What did you bribe her with? Sweets? Shells? Her still being your favorite after her sibling is born?” She teased, running the hand she placed upon Oceanus’s cheek to the up and down back of his neck. 

  Oceanus certainly had a point; while they wouldn’t mind their children joining them from time to time, they still needed their own space for just the two of them. Thankfully, they had the means to create more room when needed. “Perhaps one each for them? Unless they get along. We’ll have to see how Styx behaves as a big sister. And with future children? How many are we planning for?” Tethys asked him as she kept her hand on his neck and turned herself around to face her husband directly. A curious smile lingered upon her lips, waiting for Oceanus’s answer.

“History is happening, mother, and we happen to be in the most exciting family there is. Besides; I have been summoned.” Which was partly true. How wonderful it was to be of any importance during these exciting times. This was a moment for her to show of much use she could be. Her ambitions were as grand as her father’s height; perhaps even greater. And the fact that her parents decided not to be involved only made her decision slightly easier; imagine how conflicting it would have been had they decided to ally with uncle Cronus.. 

“I don’t believe it is going to get me in any trouble. Zeus is not like uncle Cronus, even though he is his son. Besides, I would not disregard aunt Phoebe’s prophecy. They always come true one way or another. Zeus just needs a great strategy —” a proud smile graced delicate features, eyes almost twinkling with delight “—and that’s where he needs me. Mother — the new king needs me. How could I possibly refuse.”

  “Summoned?” Tethys repeated suspiciously with arched brow. Her children being aware of the war worried her enough but if Rhea’s children were making their rounds and gathering soldiers for their war concerned her if they were confronting her sons and daughters about the matter. Oceanus and Tethys moved to the edge of the world to avoid the outside world and its problems; perhaps they were too foolish thinking that would last forever. 

  “War is trouble no matter whose side you are on. Even a simple coup...the one your uncles orchestrated is what started all of this,” Tethys informed her daughter. She shook her head listening to Metis speak about Rhea’s youngest son and she was practically glowing at the very mention of his name. Was Zeus another nephew she had to worry about when it came to her daughters? Helios was an annoyance to say the least but at least he wasn’t convincing her children to fight a war with...or for him. 

  “I need you to consider every possibility, Metis. You are wise beyond your years but I think you’re blinded by this new opportunity. Yes, it is exciting but it could hurt you. Maybe wait until this war is over to advise Rhea’s children. I wouldn’t be surprised if they summoned Themis and she is the perfect choice to advise them now.”
