Jack had never been too religious— not to the degree his parents, especially his mom, had been. He'd pray on occasion and attend mass on Easter and Christmas, but not much beyond that. Given the past few weeks he'd had, quite literally coming back from the dead, visiting the church again felt right. He didn't know how or why that was possible— Matty said he had been investigating, but Jack was just thankful he got to come back to see who his son grew up to be, and he was so proud.
As he walked into the church, the last person he expected to find himself face to face with was Maggie. Maybe he should— he'd known for years that Maggie worked at the orphanage, just a few blocks away from where he and Matty used to live. Maybe he just expected that, at this point, she'd moved on to somewhere else.
Actually, he had even hoped she had. They hadn't spoken at all in the years after she left, and he had no idea what he could even say now.
