Sometimes it felt like she had more use of her ‘office’ back when it was a room in the home she shared with her mother than she tended to do here in the city...where it was an actual office in a rather nice building at that. Granted, among many of the things that Crockett Island had left her with that she would rather do without, it did also instill a sense of feeling like she needed to help every person she came across within her zip code -and maybe a few others...

As she helped the young man sit back upright, she took a seat on the sidewalk with him, keeping a steadying hand on his back. “It’s alright. Just keep taking in some deep breaths. Do you happen to recall what happened leading up to your fall?” she asked.

Sarah grinned as she happened upon him out in the market, a hint of mischief in her eyes. “I trust your shoes are all laced up properly this time?” she teased, “Though, I think the few inches of snow would make for a much softer landing than the pavement.”

Closed starter for: A muse of your choosing

Sarah had been seeing patients all morning, pretty much since the instant she opened the practice’s door. Bless her receptionist and CNA for devising a scheduling method that allowed them to see the patients they needed too, but it also meant that all three were left pretty worn by the time things slowed down around noon.

As a thank you to the others, she offered to go pick up lunch, which is how she found herself in line at a place they’d suggested but that she herself was absolutely new to. Not really being able to make heads or tails of the menu, she turned to the person in the queue ahead of her and asked, “Excuse me, but what would you say is the best thing to order for someone who’s never been here?”

She wasn’t entirely sure at what point in her commute she’d become a pillow, but considering how absolutely out the girl was, Sarah could at least assume she was a comfortable one. She really did hate to have to wake her, but as endearing as this was, she’d hate for either of them to miss their stop. As gently as she could manage, Sarah reached out and ran a hand through her hair as she said, “Hey kiddo, I know naps are great, but having to redouble on the metro to get to where you’re going is no fun.”

All in all, a booth in a public cafe wasn’t necessarily the most unique location she’d provided a consult, and at the end of the day if a young woman approached her with questions -likely because she forgot to remove her lab coat before going for break- who was she to deny them. “Okay, well, we can start with names, I’m Sarah or Dr. Gunning. Why don’t you share yours, and then tell me a bit about what your concerns are?” This had to be a giant HIIPA violation, but after everything she’d seen and heard -both in the city and before- it was an afterthought.

Letting the newspaper in her hands fall at the fold so she could get a clear look at the young woman, Sarah simply smirked and said, “I’m inclined to agree but, I do feel I have to ask: which paper? By the law of averages, at least some of them have to be right, no?”

Glancing up from the chart as she entered the room, Sarah raised a brow and said, “I’m in the business of repeat customers but, usually I’d like to see a bit of time between visits. Otherwise it might imply I’m doing my job wrong.” She let out a light laugh before taking the seat in front of the girl. “So, I’d be a little upset if you said you just missed me, but I’d be more upset if you said something was actually wrong and I missed it.”

She was a little caught off guard by the offered hand at first. After all, it was a bit of a rarity for Sarah to be out, much less expect to be noticed as she hunkered down in her usual booth. However, she also wasn’t in the habit of being rude, so once she caught on, she smiled up and took his hand. “It’s very kind of you to offer,” she said, “Hopefully I’m not too rusty.”
