Rules: It’s time to love yourself. Choose your 5 favorite works you created in the past year (fics, art, edits, etc.) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you’ve brought into the world. Tag as many writers/artists/etc. you want (fan or original) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works!
Well. 2020 was a bit of a sparse year. One of those in-between years where I’m not in the mad grip of any particular fandom. I think most of my work this year was original? Also D&D inspired, in large part. Let’s see:
1 I think my favourite of the D&D inspired stories was Imsh the Soft – a nice little story about an orc cleric/male midwife who starts out a cleric for the orcish mother goddess Luthic and winds up a cleric for the halfling chief goddess Yondalla.
2 For my original-original stories, much as I would love to say Long Nights And Lord Save Us, since I just came back to it after 3 years and I’m happy about it, but that was done in 2021. So we’ll go with Welcome to Brock’s Landing instead, since it’s a story I’ve been promising myself I’ll write for years, about a pair of vampiric siblings who realise far too late that they’re holidaying in essentially Innsmouth (selkie town) and marine monsters tend to have bigger teeth than land monsters. Heh.
3 For fandom I’ve mostly just noodled around in Fallout 4 in 2020, with a bit of Mandalorian in 2021. Of the Fallout fics, it’s a bit of a toss-up between 50/50 Horror and Hope and Three Idiots in Diamond City. My sister and I have been playing the game and I fell in love with Nick Valentine all over again. 50/50 has the typical Fallout whump and h/c, angst and trauma, while Three Idiots has post-apocalyptic courtship and pretty ladies.
4 For a non-fandom, non-story work that I’ve done in 2020, I apparently wrote my most popular post ever on tumblr, about how neatness/tidiness can be incredibly creepy in horror if you do it right. And just in general. Patience, order and neatness are all terrifying in an enemy, and I’ve maintained that for years. Heh.
5 And finally, on a perhaps more childish note, I’ve been playing a lot of Minecraft this year, between various lockdowns and so on. A neat thing I built which I posted on tumblr was this Victorian-ish Glasshouse build that I did in creative. I’m still happy about it, several months later.
So, there are my selections (and yes, I’ve cheated several times, but hey)! Thanks to @theoutcastrogue for the tag!
