the thing that's always deterred me from books the most is when there's some heavy worldbuilding in the first few pages; I know it's amazing having this awesome, exciting place in your head that your story is set in, but lay off on including too many specific terms all at once (especially when your reader is still on the fence on deciding to read the book or not)
