Hello! I hope whoever's reading this is having a nice day. Anyhoo. What's the difference between an internalized meltdown, such as was recently answered in an ask, and a shutdown?
An internalized meltdown still has all the violent impulses of a meltdown (hitting, kicking, screaming, etc.) while a shutdown doesn’t typically involve these features.
Basically, an internalized meltdown is when you are having a meltdown but stop any of the impulses from manifesting. So, if you typically scream and hit things when you have a meltdown, you may feel like you’re about to burst with the need to scream and hit things, but, for some reason (often fear), you are unable to let this out.
A shutdown on the other hand often involves difficulty moving, difficulty speaking, and difficulty interacting with the world in general.
