As the Internet Emperor I decree everyone should ignore everything I’ve ever said about the genetics of body size and gain weight! Because of course anyone who says fat people should be respected and not treated like subhumans or second-class citizens believes fat people are superior and thin people should be destrooooyed!

Actually, I was not writing off anyone's experience, that post was ERASING EVERY EXPERIENCE A THIN PERSON HAS HAD WITH THE ER BEING SHITTY. "Thin privilege is getting your IBD diagnosed right away, because fat people don’t get bowel diseases." NO. Thin privilege is being told you have a mental disorder and not a fucking GI problem. How ignorant IS this blog even.

You know what? This blog doesn’t need to tell thin people stories. Because the whole world tells thin people stories. That’s what privilege means.

Also: by saying we need to include thin people in every story we tell is erasing the trend this blog is all about exposing — fat people DO receive shoddier care, lack of respect, and naked bias from healthcare professionals in much larger numbers than thin people. 

Thin people have the advantage of being believed in the vast majority of instances where they are mistreated, disrespected, or discriminated against in the doctors’ office.* They have the advantage of sympathy for the wrong done to them, while fat people are told that it’s our fault. 

You can choose to ignore all this and cry, “What about meeee I’m being erased” but realize that we’re just folks running a blog in some dusty corner of the internet.

We don’t have the ability to make policy. We aren’t running insurance companies. We aren’t on the ethics boards of large medical associations. We aren’t the ones who erase people. We try to color in fat people in the crude sketches society makes of them, which are otherwise filled with vibrant representations of thin people*.

*though there are people who represent other marginalized groups who systematically get shoddy care, like folks who through might not have access to good care as a function of being a member of a group that is discriminated against.  

*note that the most vibrant representations of thin people are predominantly male, white, straight, and able-bodied.

You talk about double standards and then post about not complaining about being too skinny. You talk about being discriminated against constantly and then rather than support other people going through negative experiences, you say that their problems aren't worth mentioning. I could give a fuck about your weight because things like that prove that you're an ugly person regardless.

Added: the asker meant a reblogged post that was saying complaining about being too thin does not equal oppression. The post doesn't say, "Don't complain about being too skinny." The last line of the post is: "Yes, [thin shaming is] all part of the patriarchal perfect-woman bullshit that no one can live up to, but let’s face it, when fat bodies aren’t constantly devalued the way thin bodies are, I’ll listen to you complain."

What the fuck do I care if thin people complain about being too thin? As long as they're not trying to pretend they don't have thin privilege because they're 'too' thin, they can complain about whatever the fuck they want to. I'm not the Internet Emperor (I have to keep reminding the trolls about this. I don't know why they're trying to anoint me as Ruler of All the Internets but again, I DON'T WANT IT).

Problems suck. Everyone has problems. Just because this is a blog about fat oppression and thin privilege doesn't mean everyone who has problems is oppressed. And no, while thin people have problems, they are not oppressed for being thin.

I understand overweight people are seen more negatively than thin people, but tbh I don't really understand why you named your blog 'thisisthinprivilege'. It is like you try to insult thin people and start a war. No wonder people react to that, you are asking for it. It is like having a fanblog for dogs with the name 'catsarestupid', downrading the opposite race; Weird example but you know what I mean.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Given that I responded to this (your) same exact comment about four times only yesterday. 

On that whole 'starting a war' business:

People keep persisting in thinking I'm the Internet Emperor. Alas! no: I am unable to start wars and/or 'downrade' (whatever that means, but it sounds kinda badass). 

You would know all this if you actually read the blog before sending me your willfully ignorant and entirely uninformed opinion. But you're a super-special snowflake that needs to be heard and whose opinions need to be respected, amirite?

On being the Internet Emperor, and 'censoring' opinions by not publishing them.

This was originally a response to yet another troll who said if I didn't publish their opinions on why fatness was both immoral and unhealthy I was somehow censoring them.

Then the post got eaten. Anyway.

So.

For anyone who thinks I'm somehow censoring their opinion by not publishing it on this blog....

I've got news for you:

Contrary to popular belief, I am NOT the Internet Emperor.

It's true.

You can hold whatever opinions you want.

Look -- you're doing it! And I have NO WAY TO STOP YOU.

What you do not have, however, is space on this site.
