Hey so the poll came across my dash and one of my mutuals had put in the tags that if we looked at your blog you had been getting hate for it so that’s what led me here and I just wanted to say I’m really sorry people are being such assholes about a lighthearted term difference, even if you HAD meant it as some sort of rage bait or something you’re a human being and you don’t deserve to get treated like anything less, I hope this blows over real quick and that you have a great day/ week regardless 💜

The funniest thing is the poll itself was entirely intended for my very small pool of followers, multiple of whom speak UK English/Scottish English and the like, and really was not ever written with an American audience in mind. This of course is not a thing that should matter, but on Tumblr (and the internet) I think it's so common to assume American-ness that even if there's a simple explanation for something you don't recognise, such as a regional difference, it's apparently easier to immediately start laughing at someone else's expense? Wild behaviour imo, ngl.
It is in no way rage bait, it really is just American users missing a bit of nuance-- which is to say I am a Scottish user who was writing for a largely UK/European audience. That's really all it is and it's been massively misread as 'fishing' or 'rage bait' I think?
Maybe next time I'll just write my polls in Scots language and then they'll have no choice but to simply not get it and not reblog :D
