Personal Art Interpretations toward Masterpieces
Personal art interpretations help us understand the people around us. Artists express themselves through their art and, most often than not, people have various interpretations for them. Our interpretations of artistic expressions is not always similar, yet they always relate to life. These interpretations are sometimes ideas and thoughts beyond the intentions of an artist. This is natural given the differences in philosophies, experiences, and culture of individuals at a particular period of influence. In class debates, teachers want to know how students understand or react to certain matters. This activity actually allows the teacher to know about his/her students instead of gauging their intelligence. Same goes for art interpretations. The way we interpret artistic expressions—on a personal level—speaks something about us. How so? Why Personal Art Interpretations Differ? Although we come to a point of agreement about an artist’s output, your personal interpretations differ from others’. This point of agreement refers to the meaning that the artist weaves in his/her craft—and, that he/she chooses to establish. However, there are factors that influence our personal art interpretations. These factors refer to culture, period, experience, philosophies, idols, and people belonging to your social circle. A perfect example of different interpretations is how people perceive colors. For example, you perceive the color blue as a state of peace and serenity, while others consider it melancholic. As for red, it displays the color of rage to some, while others see it as an expression of love. In other cases, people interpret love stories told artistically through songs, novels, and/or poems as stories about friendship. Having Different Interpretations for Art Is Okay Our personal art interpretations most times, if not often, deviate from the true meaning of an artist’s output. Fearing the comments of the cynics, we often keep these interpretations to ourselves. As a matter of fact, we obsess over art pieces because of our feelings toward them. For example, you see an awkward elegance in a certain painting that speaks so much of yourself. The desire to possess a certain work of art overwhelms you that you purchase it, not minding its price. This case is also similar to unbelievably expensive concert tickets of your favorite artist, who composes songs that move you. Although your interpretation of that artwork differs from the common interpretation, you hold it close to your heart. One reason why you interpret the painting differently is because of an experience that relates to it. Or, this is so because of the culture or period of influence that you belong to. Our personal art interpretations and distinct tastes of artistic expressions say something about us. You need only ask what poem, music genre, novel’s theme, paintings, or other forms of art a stranger or a friend desires. And, only then could you take a glimpse beyond the façade he/she shows to you. Read the full article
