On the woodland floor of Nova Scotia, Canada, Osmunda claytoniana (interrupted fern) was creating pools of green textured fronds. This deciduous fern has lance-shaped, bipinnate fronds which surround erect, central fronds on which occur fertile middle pinnae which are rusty-brown with spores - the interruption of the common name.
