caspian and jiwon's halloween // @interxstitial

caspian is slowly, slowly getting accustomed to being different. to being inhuman. it's scary and awful, being thrust into this world he didn't know existed. but it's interesting, too. he sees creatures like him in the dark. he smells someone at the bus stop and knows instinctually, somehow, that they are not human.

jiwon is different now, too. caspian doesn't know if it's because they've been feeding on him frequently—or if something else makes the air swirl thick and heavy around him sometimes. they don't know which is worse.

but they don't know how to ask. not until they're feeding from him again, because he's so protective, and so sweet, and he doesn't want caspian to feed from anyone else. but it's different this time. it builds, bit by bit—a muffled ringing in their ears, like they forgot earplugs at a concert. a strange, sour taste to his blood. and then hands on them. at first caspian thinks it's just jiwon trying to stop or steady them. but the hands are cold and sharp. they tug at caspian, tear at their skin, all over their body, too many hands—

stopping in his tracks, jaeun turns to look at jiwon for a moment. there's a lovely blush painting his soft cheeks, peeking out from under the collar of jaeun's jacket. there is also something... soft and uncertain in his eyes. something vulnerable. it makes jaeun want to tug jiwon into his arms and shield him from the world forever.

"i'm not pretending," he offers, and takes a step forward. the hesitance is understandable, jaeun thinks. they'd done so much dancing around one another, always chasing and drawing back and chasing again.

dami would have been protective of jiwon even if she didn't know him, even if her son didn't talk about him constantly. he's a bit of a pathetic figure before her, bare feet and cold red fingers and a bruise blooming dark on his cheek. she'd kicked the troublemakers out of the bar to keep everyone safe, only to put jiwon directly in harm's way.

"several days," she says softly, tilting his head this way and that. "it'll get worse before it gets better. looks like it won't be as big as i thought it might, though." satisfied, she turns to the bag of ice chips she'd wrapped in a clean bar towel. "here. hold this against your cheek to keep the swelling down." a regular hesitantly calls from the other end of the bar to close out his check, pulling dami away. but when she returns, there's a gentle smile on her face. "want me to call wooyung, sweetheart? i've got almost two hours before i can take you home. once he's awake, he can get here in fifteen minutes."

junseok looks at the latter. this had been going on for a while, and it annoyed junseok that the other boy hadn't said anything.

maybe the annoyance came from having to interact with him first. of course - he could just ignore him for the rest of the year and eat his lunch alone - yet there was some sort of tug at his chest to say something.
