Can I be really honest? I squealed SO hard when Min NamGoong appeared in the video.
*ahem*
For months, we have seen criticism over the title of Mnet(엠넷)'s newest music survival show, "I-LAND." specifically towards CJ ENM, one of the producers of the show, for plagiarizing popular girl group G I-DLE 여자아이들 name style and album identities. What's more, "I-LAND" was going to be the name of the group's first world tour which was set to begin in April in Bangkok but cancelled due to COVID-19. The group's fandom, "NEVERLAND," demanded the broadcaster to change the name of the upcoming show and asked UNITED CUBE Entertainment, (G)I-DLE's agency, to address this matter, but their efforts were futile.
In early June it was announced that 아이유(IU) would be singing the theme for "I-LAND", which premiered on June 26th. The MV and single for the show were released on June 19th, and it immediately topped music charts.
A day before the premiere of the show, "I-LAND" shared a special video of the applicants singing their version of the song.
You can watch "I-LAND" every Friday at 11 p.m. KST, on Mnet, and on Viki, where new episodes are added with English subtitles quickly.
