Hello @intriga-hounds Hello @kindacringeworthyhuman i really enjoy seeing your microscopic dog Sabran (formerly known as Bonnie), but i can't draw dogs, so i turned her into an anime girl. i hope you don't mind :]
reading the saga of @intriga-hounds puppies and their dog ponzu (who is not their mother) being just absolutely smitten with them to the point where they can't keep her out of the puppy pen bc she HAVE to be with the babies!!! wanna play with em and groom em and snuggle em!!!! And it just keeps making me think about how wonderfully intrinsic love really is. how we all have something that we look at and go oh!!! I love that thing!!! and we dedicate our time or our energy or our thoughts to that thing even though we don't have to. because we love it. it can be irrational and silly and it can be Puppies. thank you funny horse and thank you to your Parent for sharing the absolutely joyful journey that is ponzu and her puppies
Some Sabran for you today. It's also worth mentioning that I'm the world's worst photographer so any nice photo you see is taken by Hilla's mom, anything awkward and blurry is likely from me.
Ok so the beach. I'll actually post about this because it was today and I'm in my feels about it still.
Me and my old skrunkle chihuahua went to the local dog beach exactly once. It was awful. He was rushed by a group of dogs immediately and I got him away but the rest of our time there he was just stressed so we left and never returned. We went to other beaches (he liked to dig in sand) but he wasn't a dog who had recall and he did not trust other dogs so it was usually brief and at weird hours.
So the idea of going to The Dog Beach around here has always been kind of foreign and intimidating and I've kind of been avoiding going alone because I wasn't sure what to expect. Going to Washington and seeing her test our recall training was scary but great and she is pretty ok at it. But it gave me the confidence to try it here and damn I'm proud. I'm proud that she had like 95% success at coming to me. I'm proud that when she got over stimulated by other dogs that she came to me and just made space for herself. I'm proud of her for going in the water despite not being a natural water dog, which Washington also really really helped with. I'm proud of her for respecting the "no thanks" body language of other dogs, and for initiating play with several who wanted to play with her. She's this delightful little extrovert who isn't a dumbass about it and I just love her so much.
She baby
She went with me to my spinning guild meeting today and was amazing. Everyone loved on her, many didn't even realize there was a puppy there she was so quiet, and she slept most of it. It was a lot of mental and social stimulation and she did great at communicating when she needed a break and later when she wanted mommy time (where I then held her like a baby while talking about spindles to someone).
I won't pretend that I'm not occasionally losing my damn mind with the constant gentle corrections ("no thank you ma'am" is what I've found myself saying a ton and I have no idea where it came from) and redirections from cords to safe chews. Puppies are hard. But there are times when I'm just in awe of how well she's settling in and handling these really weird novel experiences. She's so damn smart and I can't even be mad that she's learned to use the potty bell to go outside even when she doesn't have to go, because she's happy just sitting with me on the stairs and watching the wind in the trees for a couple minutes. Like ok I probably needed that too fiiiiiiine.
She's baby, she's beautiful, she's so so so SMART, she baby so sometimes use brain for evil (but she's learning bc baby)
We're having a great time, we're just both eepy.
Happy national puppy day from the cutest puppy baby girl!
