As a trans woman, Mr. Neuwirth joins the parade of gay men who have been using drag for the past 50 years as a way to appropriate the struggles of trans women and turn it into a statement about gay men. I am not a gay man. I have never been a gay man. The trans women of color who started the stonewall riots were not gay men.
It's frustrating that trans women started all of this, we exist, we're loud, and still nobody listens to us.
So I guess I don't really give a fuck if Tom Neuwirth identifies as nonbinary. Conchita Wurst is not a trans woman by any definition and can rot in a pit for all I care, she does not represent me.

Her new cellmate looks like she should be on a runway...no, a red carpet somewhere, somehow elegant in her prison orange. She nods slightly to the guard as if dismissing her, and turns a smile on America. America's eyebrows rise almost to her hairline.
"Kate," the girl says, holding out her hand, and America takes it with a sharp grin.
"America," she answers, and keeps the handshake firm. Kate's grip matches it. She has callused hands, and America is intrigued.
"What are you in for, princess?" she drawls, looking Kate up and down slowly.
"Breaking and entering," Kate says, looking like butter wouldn't melt in her mouth. "It was a misunderstanding."
"Uh huh," America says, and points to herself. "Assault. He had to get his balls amputated."
The look Kate gives her then is suddenly very interested, and America grins.
