Seven Day Intro to WIP challenge: “Us and the Stars”

Day 7: Favorite scene/thing to write emotionally charged scenes, vulnerability

Overall, I love writing intense, emotionally-charged scenes that force the characters to be vulnerable. 

Aaron breathes a quiet sigh. “I guess I’m just not over the fact that, when I thought you weren’t real, you were still the only person I gave a shit about outside of Marcie. I couldn’t…” He pauses, grappling for the right words. “I couldn’t love my own daughter’s mother. But – “

There’s a tense pause as the two of them wait for the other to speak.

“—but you loved me,” Miguel finishes quietly.

And, even though it’s painful to write, the scene where they have to rush Marcie to the hospital was intense and challenging (tw for child illness)

“We’re gonna go back to the car, okay sweetie?” Miguel and Aaron stand abruptly as Marceline attempts to do the same. She stands on her feet for no more than three seconds before she whimpers softly. She wavers on unsteady feet for a moment before tipping over with a choked cry. Miguel just barely catches her as she falls, his back twinging as he hisses in pain through his teeth. Unable to support her weight, his knees buckle. Aaron’s feet slide out from under him as he dives to support Miguel, kneeling on the ground. The piercing pain in his back is enough to make his vision spotty as he groans involuntarily, squeezing his eyes shut.

Overall, I love anything that has to do with emotional intensity. It’s so much fun exploring the different dynamics and seeing how the characters react to vulnerability and stress.

this took me longer than seven days but i’m so glad I did all seven!

Charity Ann Blanchard - Best friend & Love interest - “She was like bubblegum and sunlight, and every time I see a picture of her it leaves a bittersweet taste in my mouth.”

Anna-Jade Chen - Classmate - “AJ is rich and pretty and overwhelmingly mysterious. Nobody has seen her boyfriend in a few weeks either. It’s strange. Maybe someone should ask her about that.”

Mr. & Mrs. Brandt - Juniper’s parents - “It’s like every time something bad happens they just disappear. Not literally. Metaphorically. It just feels like the kind, caring people they actually are shrivel up and fade away, leaving only a shell of themselves behind.”

SYNOPSIS: “Something’s coming and I think it all started because of me.” Charlotte desired a better world and she would get it. However there are some things that can’t be controlled, least of all magic. She thought she was fixing things, but unfortunately no one ever told her that for things to get better, they have to get worse. Much, much worse.

day one: about your wip

Eight years ago, Easy sat pretty atop the world. Heir to the throne of her superpowered kingdom with a shiny new cape and mask to match her parents. The press and the public ate it up: The Next Generation of Heroes Has Arrived With a Fiery Quest for Justice. The villains, and even some fellow heroes, were less impressed. 

Little Tealight, all grown up. What will they call her now? 

Easy never grew out of her old nickname. The death of her mother, then her father in immediate succession ripped all cords that bound her to childhood. Untethered her entirely from the gilded life she’d lived so far. In a matter of days, the public eye became a target on her back. So she ran. Hid. Buried herself deep in a new life. A safe one.

Tealight Missing! Possibly Dead!

Two days ago, the dirt shifted. Prying hands have pushed and pulled Easy back into the spotlight she abandoned. The lost princess returned home. Only she was not lost, this is not her home anymore, and she will not play the role of princess to appease the masses.

Enemies paint a new target fresh, wider in scope than on Easy alone. A mistake on their end. Easy isn’t seventeen and devastated, her naiveté died a long time ago. There is no black and white in the world of heroes and villains. Just seas of gray and tricks of light. 

Anyone hoping to see her burn will soon know better than to fight fire with fire.

SEVEN DAY INTRO TO WIP: Never A Demigod: Day 5: Side Characters

The Missing

Maria Whistler

Who is She: The other name on the door. Tells people she is "A Scientist" except that one time she told Cameron she was a reporter to get in contact with him. Has known Wilma for some years, and is quite close to her. Helped Cameron realize his powers as an Empath, and it greatly backfired on both of them. She returned home and began to work on relocating Cameron and finding a way to make it up to him. She went missing some months before the story takes place, but had finished her gift. Whereabouts currently unknown.

Face Claim: Jennifer Connolly

Chyna Wilson

Who is She: Bea's little sister who has recently gone missing. Just graduated high school that May, she had been accepted into Juilliard. She enjoys painting in her spare time. Of her sisters, she is the youngest and is closest to Bea. She was discovered missing one morning, her bed still made, and her backpack gone. She left behind weird notebooks.

Intro to WIP day one: summary

I know I’ve talked about my wip a lot but uh, sue me, it’s my favourite topic.

Millennials are Killing the Vampire Industry is an incredibly self indulgent vampire political drama about a vampire hunter, his sister in law (who is a vampire), and a war over the fate over human civilisation.

The Night Walkers dream of a world where vampires rule the night and humans live in fear, and they’ll do anything they can to achieve this. The Rebels will do anything to stop it. Jude, though a veteran vampire hunter, doesn’t know any of this until he meets Lenore, a member of the vampire rebels, and also his boyfriend’s sister. He’ll have to learn how to trust her and her rebel friends if he has any hope in navigating vampire society and saving humanity.

Genre: urban fantasy, new age, modern gothic

Length: trilogy (in theory) (I’m still on book one)

POV: close third person limited, though some scenes will be framed in letters, diary entries, reports, and other found document framing devices, which will be in close first or distant third, as appropriate

Day 2 - Protagonist

Jazilah Keesh, better known as Jaz. She’s a hot mess with a raging temper, trying to do her best and find “home”.

History: Life hasn’t been kind to her. Her father left for the empire when she was 3, promising to return (but of course never did). Her mother died when she was 13, leaving Jaz and her sister to fend for themselves on the rainy streets of Königshafen. Her best friend Deen refuses to return her affections, and so far she’s had 2 fingers cut off for stealing. She’s got her sights set on joining the famous Academy of Sorcery, but as always, the universe has other plans...
