So I’ve decided to really buckle down and begin to work on a novel this year.

I’ve always wanted to actually publish something but I’ve put it off for years and I’m just… not letting myself anymore. But! I have a bad habit of getting discouraged in my original stuff (one reason why I’ve put it off) so I’m going to start giving weekly updates on my writing here. Will it help? I have no idea, but I think it will push me a little to have the accountability of posting something every week. Feel free to ignore them, but just a heads-up that I am about to start making regular posts about this book!

As a first update, all I can say is that I am getting lost in the weeds of outlining. This is the first thing over ever outlined and I sort of hate it but it is also helping me. There is a story forming, but I’m sort of afraid that in this story I’m losing my main character, if that makes sense. I had a very strong sense of who they were and now in the course of figuring out the plot I’m not sure that I do anymore. It’s making me want to go back to the drawing board, but I’m not sure if I should just finish outlining first and see what happens.

Novel Progress #1

Yeah that's right fellas, I'm writing a g/t "novel" ahush By novel I mean, multi-chapter story with outline, planning and all that.

Worldbuilding is half done! But there's still many small details I have to add ugh, painn

Anyway, my designer side spoke louder and I ended up making a moodboard for my story, so I think it'll be nice to share it to y'all as sneak peak hehe

Okay one sec hello Tumblr I’m going to show off my December writing progress for a moment because omg

Yeah?? 31k words in December :D :D

And we’re STILL in Part 1 (the laboratory arc).

This is gonna be a good year.

So I’m “writing” a book

Writing is in quotation marks since my planning/novel prep is no where near done and I have a total of like 1k words written.

But in the interests of me wanting to rant about my characters in a non professional/academic setting I’m going to start sharing things on here.

Not like I was doing anything else with this blog so might as well use it to keep me in check and working.

Anyways! The Pitch!

“Xiè Ānlíng's life is turned upside down when he is pulled from the edge of Yǔlóng bridge. Now he’s been dragged into an ongoing investigation of a local mystery, a serial drowning. Now for the first time in a long time Ānlíng is spending his days around town, meeting fresh faces and feeling strangely alive. Their search turns to the supernatural when strange phenomena start interfering and he is chosen next to die. The line between life and death blurs when they get further entangled with the malevolent spirit haunting their waters. With mythology blending into reality and murderous spirits with vendettas, Ānlíng is torn between leaving Huáyún to fend for himself or risking his life for his first true friend.”

The idea is for it to be like Death Mark (the horror games) meet Chinese Mythology/Folklore (loosely) but as a story of self-discovery instead of full horror-mystery? I don’t know, I’ll workshop that a bit more.

Absolutely going feral imagining my novel as I’m writing it!!

I’m at 70k rn I’m probably gonna get to like 100k and the final act of the story is in full effect and just imagining all the cool moments.

I’m like foaming at the mouth playing music and imagining what’s gonna happen and legit so excited for the story. I’m gonna die I’m so excited and happy to be an author like this is the dream I’ve never been this happy unless I’m writing
