poem made by 11 year old me

THE PEARL

residing deep in my stomach is a pearl,

but it’s not just any pearl.

often the pearl rolls,

often it waits.

the pearl polishes against my ribs,

it becomes smoother as i become rougher.

often the pearl glides,

often it sinks, dragging me along with it.

the pearl refuses to leave,

i plead it to go in silence.

yet it answers only with weight,

mistaking my body for its forever home.

i search for myself,

all found is the reflection of the pearl.

the pearl never mourned me,

my breaking was the reason it shone.

this poem intends explores how an invisible burden (depression,anxiety,trauma,grief,etc) will always consume a person’s identity. it suggests that suffering is not always violent once arrival. it quietly settles within us, growing stronger and we grow weaker, until its inseparable from the victim.
