Setting the stage

Picture a dark room. Not black, but dark. There is a bright light coming from somewhere. Error is in this darkness. He can see this light. He gets up. He runs to it. He remembers everyone... Blue, Nightmare, Dream, Cross... Ink...
Let’s back up.
After a series of events, Nightmare and his team plus Dream and Error, Blue and Ink are now on the same side. Errored!Ink is not. Important point there.
Errored!Ink attacks sometime in the future. He goes for Ink and attempts to get his soul.
But something goes wrong.
Broomi. There is only one. And Errored!Ink has it. He slices at Ink’s clothes, made of materials made to protect one’s soul.
But that’s not all it slices.
The world blacks out. Error rises. He’s in a dark room. Not black, but dark. A light shines in front of him. He rises and runs to the light. As he runs, he thinks of all his friends.
Nightmare. His tyrant attitude and his shy personality...
Dream. His cold eyes shielding his kind heart...
Cross. His tough appearance and his social aquwardness...
Blue. His kind smile and his encouraging words...
Dust, Killer, Horror...
Dragonfly...
Launchpad...
That... Imp...
And Ink. Ink.
“INK!” Error has finally made it. To the light. Errored!Ink holds Ink. His body is fading. Errored!Ink is in tears, repeating “I didn’t mean to.” Ink smiles at the two of them.
“Thank you...”
“This is goodbye for me...”
“Don’t cry...”
“Don’t blame yourself...”
Error is now kneeling by Errored!Ink and Ink. Error is shaking. Errored!Ink is holding up Ink.
“Error, take care of this Imp for me,” Ink smiles weakly at him, “I’m going to leave soon... I won’t come back, you hear? So take care of him, he’s got my soul.”
Ink wheezes out a laugh. He calms down then smiles again.
“Take care of our soul, you silly,” Ink says to Errored!Ink
“I’m gonna miss you both...” Ink’s body is turning gold. He soon disappeares, only his half of the soul remains. It turns right side up and aligns with Errored!Ink’s half. Gold strings sew them together.
The two just sit there for a while. Not saying much.
“Alright, Imp,” Error gets up with a grunt, “Ink said to watch you... So I will.”
“Even after all I’ve done?” Imp asks through tears. Error nods, a small smile appears on his face.
“You look a lot like him, y’know?” Error says as they walk off.
“We are the same person after all,”
“Yeah, yeah...”
“By the way, where are we going?”
“Just to my place,”
“Ok.”
“I’m not going to trust you yet, but might as well do as Ink asks...”
Aftermath
Imp stares out into the AU before him. Error walks up by him. The two smile then run down, chasing and shoving one another. Waiting for them, is all their friends.
And they lived happily ever after...

Why did Ink seem so forgiving to Errored!Ink (now known as Imp)?
Ink and Imp had a bonding moment together. This moment will never be shown, as I want the consumer to decide that.
What’s Imp’s new role?
He’s the new protector of AUs.
Where is Ink?
He’s dead. His spirit sometimes visits the cast, but no one knows he’s there.
What was the black room?
Since Error is technically still the god of destruction, he was transported there along with Ink and Imp. I headcannon that if someone other than Error kills Ink, he’ll know. That’s we’re he and Ink go to after Ink is on the brink of death.
Well, why was Imp there?
Imp is the same person as Ink; They share a soul.
Why is this considered the “Best Ending”?
Ink forgives Imp, therefore he can go on to the afterlife. If he didn’t forgive Imp, he’d be trapped following Imp for the rest of time.
(And no, there isn’t an ending where Ink or Imp lives; one or both of them have to die. Only then can INVERTEDVERSE end.)
Isn’t Ink immortal?
Yes and no. He was killed by himself, and he also has a soul in INVERTEDVERSE. Besides, everyone in INVERTEDVERSE are humans (though, I don’t care if you draw them as skeletons if you plan on making fanart).
