Hi, I'm Ellise and I wanted to contribute somehow so please enjoy this, sorry if it isn't relatable..
Literally people with talk about how Tourettes can cause pain and shit but I just. raising and lowering my eyebrows (sometimes holding for long periods of time) will give me a headache in abt 15 that I can get rid and I Still raise my eyebrows, neck tics will leave my neck sore for another day or two (in which I’m still ticcing), my finger joints have been sore for more than a day now bc when I start up a certain tic it will repeat and repeat until the joint is stiff and aching, I have a jaw tic where I snap my teeth shut that hurts for another day afterwards on my jaw joint, causing me pain to chew gum and eat, and there is the jaw punching tic which I feel I don’t need to explain,, I just can’t actually believe ppl would want this so they can cus??? I don’t even cus!! A lot dont!
tic of the day: *in siri voice* “Twelve legs.. like a spider on crack”.
This is in the middle of my intensive brain physiology class
tic of the day “what a nice nice nice looking bitch, what a nice looking bitch, wow” and then proceeds to pour an entire sachet too much of salt on my food
things I’m tired of hearing when people hear me tic for the first time (and what I wish I could say):
• omg I wish I had Tourette’s you can say anything you want and get away with it!
- so you wish you had 24/7 physical discomfort and constant public attention and stares and that if you had coprolalia you might insult people completely unintentionally?
• ahah it would be so funny to have a friend with Tourette’s!
-yes, laugh at me, hilarious, you might as well yell “dance monkey, dance!” thank you random stranger.
• how did you get all these tattoo’s with your tics that must have been so so funny to watch!
-I got them before my tics were very physical, thank you for reminding me that it’ll be very difficult to get any more now.
•oh have you seen that girl on youtube who cooks with Tourette’s?? Eggs! everywhere! omg! I bet it’s impossible to cook hahah
-yes my fucking god I’ve seen the fucking video, and no it’s not hard to cook because luckily my tics aren’t always as severe. especially when I have something to focus on, but if one more person asks me about that damn video I will be throwing eggs at them.
• sooo, do you tic when you’re asleep??
-babe if I’m asleep, how would I know, big brain?
like I fully get it that people don’t see people with tic disorders often and it can be interesting and funny and they want to talk about it but just on a personal level, I’m so sick of hearing these things.
I fully understand the perspective of the individuals who say this but urgh..
had the most painful tic at work today, my head got stuck fully clenched and thrown backwards as far as it could go, for like 50 seconds.
was ticking so bad all day bc of no sleep, too much coffee, and a 13 hour shift, I had bad knocking tics too where I aggressively knock on the ground with my knuckles and punching tics too, generally the ground, or my chin.
my entire body hurts like hell but oh wellll, could be worse ey?
This new tics really been annoying me- it opens my jaw until it hurts and then twists it to the side like , ouch? And it’s esp bad when I’m in the shower washing my hair cuz the soap gets in my mouth <just got out of the shower
A short write up about Lars Doucet's latest project, a rogue-like in which you play as a Smiley Face and the more stressed out you get - from touching otherwise harmless enemies - the more symptoms of Tourette's Syndrome you exhibit.
Having Tourette's myself - usually things like coughing or snuffing, but others as well - and also owning/having played some of his previous work, Defender's Quest: Valley of the Forgotten, I'm quite interested by this. I'd love to see where all he goes with it, and while as one commenter put it he may not be able to capture exactly my situation with Tourette's, it'll be nice to see someone trying to raise awareness of it and yet still make what could very well be a fun or engaging game.
