got an official Tourette’s diagnosis yesterday
things I’m tired of hearing when people hear me tic for the first time (and what I wish I could say):
• omg I wish I had Tourette’s you can say anything you want and get away with it!
- so you wish you had 24/7 physical discomfort and constant public attention and stares and that if you had coprolalia you might insult people completely unintentionally?
• ahah it would be so funny to have a friend with Tourette’s!
-yes, laugh at me, hilarious, you might as well yell “dance monkey, dance!” thank you random stranger.
• how did you get all these tattoo’s with your tics that must have been so so funny to watch!
-I got them before my tics were very physical, thank you for reminding me that it’ll be very difficult to get any more now.
•oh have you seen that girl on youtube who cooks with Tourette’s?? Eggs! everywhere! omg! I bet it’s impossible to cook hahah
-yes my fucking god I’ve seen the fucking video, and no it’s not hard to cook because luckily my tics aren’t always as severe. especially when I have something to focus on, but if one more person asks me about that damn video I will be throwing eggs at them.
• sooo, do you tic when you’re asleep??
-babe if I’m asleep, how would I know, big brain?
like I fully get it that people don’t see people with tic disorders often and it can be interesting and funny and they want to talk about it but just on a personal level, I’m so sick of hearing these things.
I fully understand the perspective of the individuals who say this but urgh..
had the most painful tic at work today, my head got stuck fully clenched and thrown backwards as far as it could go, for like 50 seconds.
was ticking so bad all day bc of no sleep, too much coffee, and a 13 hour shift, I had bad knocking tics too where I aggressively knock on the ground with my knuckles and punching tics too, generally the ground, or my chin.
my entire body hurts like hell but oh wellll, could be worse ey?
