Simple review: Sony Inzone Buds for PC (and PS5) gaming: They're great and battery life is ridiculous
Earlier this year, I picked up a pair of Sony Inzone Earbuds for my PC gaming. Here are my goals and a few relevant details:
I'm a short guy with a big ass head, and traditional capital-G Jamer headsets feel bulky and clunky on my heed real quick
Hence my interest in buds
I wanted to disable the built-in mic to save battery life
I use a desk-mounted microphone like a wanna-be streamer or podcaster
I am a wanna-be streamer, but I also play with friends fairly often so I use both parts of this setup
I wanted buds that could last longer than a few hours on a single charge, which is the best I could find of all the leading Jamer buds from Razer, SteelSeries, etc.
I have a PS5 but I haven't tried these with it. It's basically still around for the infrequent co-op games I play with my wife, and the couple of Sony games I haven't bothered to figure out how to acquire on PC
After a few months, I am surprisingly happy with these. Battery life is almost unreal for their size: Sony advertises a whopping 12 hours on a single charge. While I haven't pushed that, I have easily done 3-5 hour sessions and not cracked 50% left. I just finished teaching a 132 minute Destiny 2 dungeon, and all three battery tick marks are still present for both buds in Sony's software.
An important note there: You can disable the built-in microphone, at least on PC, to save battery life, which was one of my requirements. I am using a standalone, desk-mounted mic for game chat. I don't know how much of an effect that has on battery life, and I can't find stats from any gaming company that makes buds. But I have to imagine microphone input eats up a decent chunk of earbud battery life.
I don't love Sony as a company, especially its gaming wing. It seems to be run by a bunch of giant butts. After a few months with these things, though, I can't avoid it. They are pretty darn good at what they do.
