People are asking me this, so I thought I'd show you the information from the Department of Education.

You all can have the spreadsheet from this IPEDS data too.

But essentially, yes, BJU spends about $60k on salary and benefits on each employee.

At least they did in the FYE May 2022.

Who remembers the wig years?

This helps set the stage. The red bars are the average faculty salaries as BJU reported them to IPEDS over the years. The green are BJU's benchmark school averages.

And the blue? That's the highest administrative salary (outside of Pettit) for the same years (the 990s are a year behind the IPEDS data).

This will never change at Bob Jones University. Never.

Every year Bob Jones University has to tell the Dept of Ed the other schools against which it compares itself. For the fiscal year ending 2019, BJU compared itself against the following:

Carolina University (Winston-Salem, NC)

Cedarville University (Cedarville, OH)

Charleston Southern University (Charleston, SC)

Clarks Summit University (Clarks Summit, PA)

Covenant College (Lookout Mountain, GA)

Erskine College (Due West, SC)

Faith Baptist Bible College and Theological Seminary (Ankeny, IA)

Faulkner University (Montgomery, AL)

Limestone University (Gaffney, SC)

Maranatha Baptist University (Watertown, WI)

Newberry College (Newberry, SC)

North Greenville University (Tigerville, SC)

Presbyterian College (Clinton, SC)

Regent University (Virginia Beach, VA)

Samford University (Birmingham, AL)

The DoE then compares the data each school self-reports against that school.

And on the average Bob Jones University's faculty members make 75% of all the other benchmark schools--$0.75 for every dollar. And that's down a penny from last year. Here's the overview:

BJU's collection of state funds is up too. That could be that more students are coming from South Carolina, and so they can collect state funds.

But scholarships and discounts are up similarly. Federal grants (like Pell) are flat.

This is where we get into the weeds. BJU's net tuition was up in the FYE 2023. But for the latest year, it's back down.

With the IPEDS data comes an overall look at BJU's financial health.

That Total Assets plummet (green), remember, was because Steve Dickinson forgot basic accounting.

They haven't really recovered from that. It's pretty much same-old, same-old.
