This morning I got a comment on #IPreferDan saying I won the Most Memorable award. Out of all the fics written in 2015 #IPreferDan got the most votes. They said I could make a little speech so I figured I’d type it out.

#IPreferDan’s google document was created on January 17th, 2015. It was changed from Untitled Document to “FTM Dan” on the 20th. It stayed titled “FTM Dan” as I worked on it until March 7th when I changed it to #IPreferDan and posted it on Archive Of Our Own.

What I didn’t realize until a friend pointed it out to me was the title was a hashtag. Well, I mean I realized it but I didn’t think much of it. So, curiosity got the better of me and i put it into twitter and was astounded to find a handful of people talking about it. Then I found myself checking other websites. Someone even plagiarized it on wattpad.

It’s weird, I guess, to get excited about being plagiarized. In the beginning of 2015 I had just started taking testosterone. Through every rough time this year I could check my email or the tag and find something new someone said and feel a little better.

In August a boy named Thomas commented saying I gave him hope for his future. He bookmarked it and commented:

“It helped me to find myself a future instead of a grave and "2001-2015". I can't help it, but now I can officially say a Phanfiction is what inspired me to stick around, and see how life turns out for me.”

I legitimately cried. I could have never imagined the impact it had on even one person.

2015 was the year I found myself as a writer and it’s mostly in thanks to you guys. I always liked writing stories and escaping to world where I have complete control down to the punctuation marks, but I never considered myself particularly good at it. I started writing a novel ((that I’m so excited about)) and for fun started a chaptered fic “Bells For Becca” which is another trans!dan fic. I’ve been writing more than I ever did and I’ve gotten so much more confident because of it.

I am beyond grateful to Helen (@HowellsLester) and Krystle (@Stylinsunstar) who made sure I finished writing it. For Alexandra for wanting to translate it into Russian. For Chloe for wanting to make a trailer. I’m probably forgetting people but I am currently in disbelief. Thank you all so much.

Reading #IPreferDan made me wonder: has Dan ever read any phanfics. I mean, I know he does but actual pheelsy, deep, fluffy phanfics. Not just those 'The ___ Fic's. 'Cuz that would be awesome af.

I wonder if he's ever cried over some real angsty ones. I wonder if he's ever "awww"ed at really romancey fics.
