I was tagged by @ipwarn thanks for thinking of me!
Three ships:
So many at this point, but here are my current faves.
Klaine
David/Patrick
Tarlos
And because I can’t just pick three: Wayhaught
Last song:
I’ve had the Royalties soundtrack on shuffle most days. I think maybe the last song I listened to was... “Prizefighter”? I like that one.
Last movie:
Trolls World Tour lol. It was actually good believe it or not.
Currently reading:
A lot of 911 fanfiction lol
Currently watching:
A sort of old show called Sirens. It’s a 30-minute comedy series about EMTs in Chicago. It’s pretty funny so far. With the state of the world, I’ve only really wanted lighthearted fare recently.
Currently craving:
Connection. Travel. My family. Theatre. So much.
I’m really bad at tagging because I never know who’s done the thing already. Consider yourself tagged if you want to do this!!
"I want to make sure I won't be another straight boy taking a gay man's role."
Most actors tend to rule-out certain roles only after intense backlash. But Darren Criss appears to be getting on the front foot.
The 31-year-old has announced he no longer wants to play gay characters after starring in Ryan Murphy's The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. The announcement comes at a time when Hollywood is grappling with queer representation on screen (specifically, the issue of transgender actors not being cast in trans or non-trans roles).
The former Glee star says it was an honour playing characters such as Blaine Anderson in that series but it is time to give up the blazer and perfectly coiffed hair for good.
"There are certain roles that I'll see that are just wonderful," he recently told online women's magazine Bustle. "But I want to make sure I won't be another straight boy taking a gay man's role. The reason I say that is because getting to play those characters is inherently a wonderful dramatic experience. It has made for very, very compelling and interesting people."
Criss's comments come a few months after Scarlett Johansson was cast a transgender brothel owner in the upcoming film Rub & Tub. She later turned down the role due to intense backlash, but not before firing off a statement telling people to direct their criticism to the likes of Jeffrey Tambor and Jared Leto. (Both men portrayed trans people in Transparent and Dallas Buyers Club respectively.)
A few weeks later, it was Disney's turn to cop criticism due to actor and comedian Jack Whitehall cast as the studio's first openly gay character in Jungle Cruise. The British performer identifies as straight.
Some straight and cisgender actors have scoffed at the idea of not being allowed to play LGBTIQ characters. But as Transparent's Trace Lysette and others explained in a recent Variety roundtable, transgender actors don't want restrictions put on their straight colleagues. Instead, they want more opportunities for trans performers and for straight afters to stop taking the few opportunities that do exist.
"I'm so tired of the double-standard," Lysette said during the roundtable. "We don't get to be in the room for certain roles. I'm not out there getting in the [audition] rooms for cis roles as much. I play trans roles and I feel boxed in. We've been denied for so long."
While LGBTIQ representation on television has never been higher, according to the latest GLAAD report, it is often straight actors who win praise for starring in queer roles. Both Timothee Chalamet and Armie Hammer were cast in queer love story Call Me By Your Name, despite neither identifying as gay. Before that, it was Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger in Brokeback Mountain.
Tom Hanks won an Oscar in 1994 for playing a gay man while, 10 years later, it was Charlize Theron's time in the spotlight after playing a lesbian serial killer.
Criss's decision to step back from gay roles has won him praise online, with numerous people thanking him for "making room" for queer people to tackle queer roles.
"This is how to be a straight ally," one person wrote. "It is this easy to help the LGBTIQ community in simple ways. This is one of them."
@ipwarn It’s unpleasant. At least the comment is not tinhattery, but it’s kinda Glee hate, and that is so not why I am here. I love my show with all it’s faults, and want no part of any agenda...

did you fall asleep in the middle of writing this sentence? lol
Unfortunately not - I had a hard time sleeping last night :P

See I properly started watching the show in season 4 and it’s funny because the way you describe the newbies is how I feel about the NYC crowd that they tried to create during seasons 4 and 5.
Interesting! Yeah people who came in later just have such a different take on the newbies. I won’t lie, though, and say that while I love NYC because Kurt, they never really figured out what to do with it, and it was very underdeveloped, especially in season 4.

It's actually kind of impressive how boring they managed to make Ryder.
I know, right? How does this dude have no personality? How did Blake Jenner win glee project - I mean seriously. (This is rhetorical, y’all don’t need to remind me of that weird poem thing that Ryan Murphy was obsessed with.)

Yay! Thank you!D - A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t:
Hmmm, I often don’t wish to like pairings that I don’t - I just find the one I do like and stick with it. Maybe Seblaine? There’s a lot of good fandom content about for it, and I like the characters separately but just not with each other. I can’t multiship Blaine. I lean more towards Kurtbastian, but even then… Klaine is endgame mmkay? The Avengers fandom - Stucky. My heart was stolen first and would not let up for anything. I ship the superboyfriends lesbehonest. #stony.
I - Has Tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why?
Not really? If anything it caused me to explore new fandoms and shows I’d never heard about. I’ve been around fandom circles a looong time and fandom wank has existed as long as there have been fandoms. Maybe Doctor Who, but only because Tumblr seemed to really celebrate and enjoy characters I didn’t as much. Ten is my doctor. Eleven seemed to be Tumblr’s.
K - What character has your favourite development arc/the best development arc?
You know what? Probably Burt Hummel to be honest. Kurt and Burt’s relationship was loving but stilted in the beginning. From ‘Preggers’ when he accepted his son, but wasn’t in love with the idea of him being gay and didn’t want to talk about boy crushes, to fully embracing his son, his sexuality and even officiating his wedding. Their relationship was the heart of Glee, and there is not one person that doesn’t like Burt Hummel. I think on a show with so many different and loved characters that were never going to please everyone, Burt Hummel was the biggest success. I love my boys Kurt and Blaine, but I think he was probably the most consistently well written and had the best development arc. There is not one scene he is in that doesn’t hit you right where it’s supposed to - in the heart.
Thank you @ipwarn, this was fun! Like Darren, I love to talk if you get me going. :)

I watched the first three episodes yesterday and I just can’t handle how much I hate Sawyer. Like I know he learns to be an actual human being eventually but jeez I just remembered how slow that transition was.

Oh damn. What a rollercoaster.
Ugh yes. Sawyer was terrible. But to me, Michael was even worse.
And so many of my faves were killed off. Sigh.
I haven’t watched it in like ten years, but since they’re taking it off Netflix, I figured I’d rewatch and finally watch the final season, which I never did. I get so aggravated at it! Lol
@ipwarn wasn't she the best??!!! I'm going to watch that again and again and again. National Treasure Melissa McCarthy 👑🙌❤️
