irandommomentsdevida replied to your quote:I swear, I saw a primary care physician listed as...
My friend met a Seymour Weiner
I think that’s actually what the name was hahaha
WHY DON"T YOU SIT AROUND WITH CRANQUIS AND FULFILL MY CRAYFARING FANTASIES ALL DAY - I mean whut
Look random, I’ve tried, but Cranq is full of excuses. Something about “wife” and “job” and “kids”... I think it’s some sort of code. You know how mysterious he can be.

Dammmnnnnn. Good thing I’ve gotten enough asks on this meme that it IS getting really close to the whole she-bang. So here I go!
1) Introduce yourself, however you wish :)
You can all call me md-a :)
2) Which country are you studying /practicing in? How does that affect what you do?
I just finished studying in the US and will be practicing there. As most people know, we have pretty broken healthcare currently. I anticipate that a lot of what happens next will be up to my generation of physicians. We all have to get comfortable with some leadership positions.
3) What are your favourite study materials and stationery?
Leuchtturm 1917 notebooks, multi-color Muji pens, and a good rock soundtrack (AC/DC MUST BE PRESENT)
4) Name some of Favourite specialties (as many as you like).
Infectious diseases, adolescent medicine, intensive care
5) What are your favourite aspects of medicine.
Hearing people’s stories, motivational interviewing, following outbreaks, teaching, and medical education
6) Name a specialty that makes you die a little inside. Why?
I’m so sorry. But OB/GYN. I rotated with an amazing physician and actually enjoyed the field itself, but aside from her, the rotation coordinators were beastly, the hospital was poorly run, and the residents were completely burned out. The practical aspects were really disheartening.
7) Which stethoscope do you favour?
My Littman Cardio 2!
8) If you had to pick your least favourite clinical examination?
It’d be too easy to say rectal. So I’m going with neuro. A truly excellent neuro exam is hard to find and do. It also takes time, which people rarely give you in the clinic or on the wards. So I always feel like I’m doing a crappy job!
9) Everyone has different strengths. What are yours?
I’m very tenacious, empathetic, and a good team member! I will also never fail during a singing contest or trivia game regarding television shows and movies.
10) Tell us an embarrassing story about med school.
Sometimes I think my entire blog is a long, long embarrassing story I am telling about med school.
11) Name someone who has really inspired you recently.
A super badass med-peds resident who recently graduated. His words of wisdom to me regarding residency: Always do your own exam, question everything (including what your consultants say), and trust carefully.
12) Share a textbook you can’t live without.
BRS PHYSIOLOGY
13) If you weren’t going into medicine you’d be a…
medical anthropologist or ethicist
14) On graduation day, you’ll give a special shoutout to…
The medblr community! You guys have carried me through this as much as any person I have encountered irl
15) Give us a pop - science/ medical book that you think we should read.(or two, or three…)
This may come as a surprise, but I recommend the food magazine Lucky Peach. They always have an article or two on food science. I’ve learned a lot about the microbiology of fermentation (which proved incredibly useful when I had a patient come in who was accidentally stabbed by his fellow line chef with a knife that was used to cut sausage) and other cool things from it! Not a book, but I think it warrants a shout-out :)
16) What surprised you about med school/medicine?
How much I changed as a result of rotations.
17) Any useful advice the next generation of Doclings?
Participate in frequent self-reflection. It helps to remind yourself of why you do this and why certain things need to be changed in medicine.
18) What do you do when you are not studying? (ADLs aside)
I watch more television than is probably advisable, go on tumblr, try to pet as many dogs as possible, attempt to keep some house-plants alive, spend time with family and friends
19) What gets you through the bad days?
Singing “Carry On My Wayward Son” and venting to my parents, sister, my close friends, and good med school friends. And medblrs!
20) Do you have any exam horror stories?
Downed campus internet+final exam only available by internet+ truncated test time= 200 questions, 2.5 hours, and homicidal thoughts.
21) Share one of your favourite revision songs.
I’ll Make A Man Out Of You from Mulan
22) You have a million [insert your currency here] to spend on healthcare. What would you choose?
Starting a foundation or campaign to make scientifically accurate, meaningful MANDATORY sex education available in ALL American schools.
23) Share a fact or legend about your medical school (without having to reveal where, of course).
We have a pharm professor give out chocolate bars during final exam review!
24) Share something you’ve done recently that you are proud of.
I SURVIVED MED SCHOOL AND GOT MY MD!
25) If you could ask the powers to change one thing about healthcare where you are from, what would it be?
The notion that healthcare is a privilege. I think it’s at the core of MANY problems with American healthcare.
26) Favourite medicine themed song/ fictional book/graphic novel/etc(delete as applicable).
Black Jack by Osamu Tezuka. Tezuka actually dropped out of med school to go into comics. His background definitely shows in the beautiful, surreal art and story-telling!
27) If you were a medical superhero, your name would be…
randommomentsdevida it’s your question!
I’d be the superhero OCCAM’S RAZOR! With razor wit and intelligence! Brilliant at getting information like Black Widow, a great detective like Batman, and definitely a little silly like Hawkeye. No physical exam finding or work-up escapes me! (I wish this was true in real life DX)
30) You’re a medical magical girl. Your powers are…
I’d want Cardcaptor Sakura style powers. I want to be able to summon powers or creatures from cards I could carry in my obviously stylish magical girl white coat. They could help me with diagnosis, treatment, and maybe if they were feeling charitable…charting? And keep me company during call!
31) One piece of advice to someone out there considering applying to medicine.
Don’t do it for anyone but yourself.
32) Something you’d like to tell your younger self.
To my college self: Your friends are assholes. Don’t waste your time with them.
33) Your favourite body part/anatomical term…
Intussusception. Because it’s bowel Inception. It’s bowel within a bowel. And that cracks me up.
34) Someone’s paying you to write a medical series. You’d write a story about…
A group of third year medical students and how rotations change them, each in their own way, for better and for worse.
35) Name a topic you enjoy answering questions about during exam time.
INFECTIOUS DISEASES. Bring it on.
36) If you were a disease, you’d be…
Probably a norovirus-induced gastroenteritis. You see me often in the vicinity of food (for I am always interested in being near food). But luckily I’m treatable and people never forget me!
37) You’re fronting your own medically themed band. It’s called…
Outbreak! Riotgrrl meets glam rock meets Fall Out Boy. And we will end our concerts screaming “YOU’VE BEEN INFECTED!!” and launch tons of glitter and confetti into the audience. The majority of our earnings will go to Doctors Without Borders and free clinics in the cities we play in. All the band members will have awesome names based on pathogens or diseases.
38) Most useless fact you’ve learned in uni so far…
The most useless fact I’ve had to learn wasn’t even medical. It was the combination to the resident’s food fridge so I could get sandwiches for my residents when we were on-call. So dumb. But every resident always asked if the med students knew it. Ugh.
39) Tell us an exam horror story.
See #20. That’s the worst it’s ever, EVER been!
40) Give us a tip we’ve probably not heard yet?
Maintain at least one hobby in the arts. When the fatigue of death, disease, gunners, obsession with hierarchy, and brutal practicality burn you out, art reminds you of the life and beauty of medicine.
29!!
WAIT. Where is number 29 on this meme???

That’s ok. I thought my mom’s sewing machine was broken for years. Turns out, I never turned it on. Wish I was kidding.
