Between School Bells

Iris looked around the room in absolute delight as she finished preparing her brand new classroom for back-to-school night. All the tiny desks were arranged in a semi circle so no one would have to lean to see the board. There was a large rainbow foam pad in front of the board as well with a pile of small pillows off in the corner, so that way when it was time to sit on the pad, everyone could have a pillow. There was a reading nook in the back corner, hidden by a heavy curtain and the floor covered in plus rugs and beanbags. And in the other back corner was a science and art table, there were shelves full of art supplies, rocks, and fossils, magnifying glasses to look at them, plenty of things to foster curiosity and creativity.

The walls of course held the normal posters of the alphabet and numbers, as well as a color wheel and silly drawings.

Just as the school clock chimed 7pm and the announcement came over the intercom to welcome parents and new students to the school and to say that back-to-school night had begun, Iris brushed off her lilac skirt one more time and opened the door to allow her new students in.
