Katara: "You're not going to stop them, aren't you?" Toph: "No one's crying." (Suyin reaches one last time.) Lin: (takes another bite.) Suyin: "...Mama." Toph: "...Better be faster next time." Given what we know about this creative team, I have a feeling this is going to be a case of Korra about to defeat her BBEG at the cost of triggering the calamity. I doubt they would say she wanted this to happen and honestly Korra going out protecting the world and leaving it changed forever, while smirking at her enemy is the Most Korra thing you can do.

It's the same with Kyoshi who killed the Earth King and was seen as the villain. Or Roku when he failed to kill Sozin to prevent the war. Korra likely tried everything she could to stop the calamity but there was no other option and sacrificed herself to ensure the world would survive.
