I'm currently re-reading your Iron Breakers trilogy after a few years and while I never forgot how much I love Anik and Ren, I've gained a new love in Evalyne. I wish more people would give us female characters like her, maneuvering an impossible situation with cunning, tough and commanding but without losing that soft heart. *chef's kiss*

Thank you so much!! I wrote Evalyne (as well as many of my other book ladies) from a place of being kind of tired of that "tough women are also always angry and rude" trope we've seen so often in movies and tv in recent years. I LOVE writing my women capable and badass authorities, but (maaybe unless they're evil villains) they're also very capable of being kind and soft without losing their badass-ness. Gotta contribute to more well-rounded women in fiction!

Soooo I've decided to reread the Iron Breakers series because it's been a while and I'm excited about Wild Sky! I'll post my thoughts here while I read it, if anyone is also reading it feel free to hmu!

i already sent an ask to @zayafeli screeching about iron breakers but uhh it’s time for more praise i guess? bc i cry over roanna sylver’s chameleon moon & isaac marion’s warm bodies but i guess i have a third fave series now?

basically it’s very fantasy and also very gay which is 10/10 the best combination of things. it was AMAZING and i can’t believe it took me so long to fucking read it. 

it’s very in-your-face gay without being one of those stories that tries too hard y’know? by which i mean while it’s very central to the story, since the two main characters get together in the end, it isn’t a story about being gay nor is it like, a big deal in the story or the worldbuilding. it’s just a thing thats accepted and i love that??? also (spoilers!) my fave character gets married in the epilogue!! so i’m very pleased!!

the writing style is pretty easy on the eyes, not too flowery or over the top bc i find that can make something difficult to read. but the simplicity doesn’t take away from the story either bc it’s just?? so easy and lovely to read?? and the plot isn’t too overly complicated either but it still has some gr9 plot twists etc etc im love!~

also the book itself has like, a little map at the beginning. it’s a super cute detail that i LOVE and i wish more books did that. seriously, it’s great. there’s also a list of characters so if you’re like me and feel the need to keep track of every minor character, it’s perfect

Shout out to anyone who’s a fan of the Captive Prince series, there’s a series called Iron Breakers by Zaya Feli which has a similar feel to it(sort of historical fantasy with LGBT characters and royalty). The first book Stags Run is free on the kindle store and the other two books are 99p each.

Seriously I just binge read all three books in one day which is no mean feat considering they’re all about 300-400 pages
