Shout out to anyone who’s a fan of the Captive Prince series, there’s a series called Iron Breakers by Zaya Feli which has a similar feel to it(sort of historical fantasy with LGBT characters and royalty). The first book Stags Run is free on the kindle store and the other two books are 99p each.
Seriously I just binge read all three books in one day which is no mean feat considering they’re all about 300-400 pages
Today’s book recommendation is another popular book(I’m starting with the popular ones and moving towards the less well known) - Carry On by Rainbow Rowell. This is a great choice for fans of Harry Potter and magic-y themed books as it takes place in a magic school similar to Hogwarts.
It’s a bit confusing at first, as the book is written as if it were fanfiction for a book series which doesn’t actually exist, so has references to plot points for a series that you can’t read BUT it still does a great job of world building and developing characters.
Today’s book rec is In Other Lands by Sarah Rees Brennan, which is a bit like Harry Potter or Carry On in the sort of magical fantasy way. I think the series can be best described by this quote;
“I don’t have a special table,” Elliot protested. “Uh, you, the murderous, man-hating elf girl, and the intense gay kid?” asked the medic. “You’re the weirdo table.”
You will fall in love with Elliot and Luke and Serene, which is great as this fandom totally needs more love!
Another of my absolute all time favourite series is All For The Game by Nora Sakavic. I know it already has a big fandom( if you’re interested I have a blog called Alwaysandreil that you can check out ;)) but it deserves all the love.
Focuses around the made up sport exy and this group of drama queens who play it - Neil(my baby), Andrew(could actually kill you and wants to), Kevin(90% vodka) and the rest of the foxes. There’s also a whole plot involving the Japanese mafia but Neil is just here to play exy.
Mentions sexual assault and child abuse and there’s a few graphic descriptions of violence but there’s a happy ending, so check it out!
So my book recommendation for today is Reason Number One by Briston Brooks. It’s a slightly emotional yet sweet book about Taylor, who’s gone off to college after escaping an abusive relationship, and follows him as he makes new friends and experiences a much healthier relationship with Callis. Seriously Taylor is such a sweetie (and is also kind of a martyr, boooo) and he must be protected at all costs, so go show this book some love!
