Lucanis [sensing blood magic/spirit healing]: What did you do?

Magpie de Riva [not wanting to be overheard]: Mathematics!

Lucanis: ...

Lucanis: I'm sorry?

Magpie: The work I do, it involves mathematics. But even the scholars in my field prefer to calculate movement along dimensions that are clearly defined. They often don't take into account that if certain units aren't constrained to a clear path, variables like intensity and direction can shift without warning.

Lucanis: I didn't realize that such studies were quite so... rational.

Magpie: I've used irrational numbers to try to approximate certain types of electrical force. Mathematics are multi-dimensional. If you measure rationality to irrationality along a continuum, that's still only two dimensions.

Lucanis: Now you sound like Viago.

It's easy to tell the difference between rational and irrational numbers!

Rational numbers know that you both just need to take a break and come back with a level head before solving the problem.

Irrational numbers will continue to yell and argue well past the point of making any sense.

Biggest pet peeve is people not knowing the difference between an irrational number and an infinite number.
