#i'm going to hold my hands up and say that for me this greatly depends on what we mean by 'use'#when i first became aware of chatgpt i wanted to play with it. i was interested to see what it would spit out from various prompts #the novelty of 'hehe computer talk to me!' had the same appeal that made me spend ages on cleverbot as a teenager #i didn't end up doing any of that because the chatgpt website asked for a phone number which i thought was bullshit (because it is)#and then i found out about the environmental impact and the copyright stuff and lost any remaining interest #however! i did not at any point want to seriously use genai to do things for me #i've always believed i could do better myself #and that even if i couldn't this was an unjustifiable kind of cheating

Probably the funniest take on Ozai is that he's a "master manipulator". Guys, this is the same man who thought asking his abusive father nicely to make him heir would actually work. He's got all the subtlety of a hammer; where do you think Zuko gets it from?

And yeah, I know someone's going to point out how Ozai manipulated his children, but like, that's the thing. They're his children. Manipulating someone who is entirely under your control and does not have enough life experience to see through your bullshit isn't very hard.

So I do 3D modeling and printing as a hobby, and a few weeks ago I designed wheel guards meant to prevent office chairs from running over cables and clothes... or your pet's tail.

I got the idea from cowcatchers old locomotives used to have.

Anyways, yesterday I uploaded the model to Thingiverse, and just hours after uploading it, the Community Relationship Manager of the whole website left a comment suggesting I enter the model into a competition that's currently being held on the site.

So I did... and now it's in third place not even a day later. First place is $500, but the competition still has a month to go.

Then the Community Manager contacted me again, telling me they want to feature my model in an upcoming design promotion.

Just, what is happening? I mostly made this thing for myself in, like, an hour, and now it's suddenly super popular? This is all a little bit overwhelming 😵‍💫

Other models I worked on for weeks didn't get nearly as popular. I swear, it's impossible to predict what people will like.

I watched the Heartstopper interview podcast (after I watched the movie) and instinctively bristled when they compared Tao and Elle to Ross and Rachel, because I hate Ross and Rachel (especially Ross). However the comparison made me realise something important about Elle: she does not 'get off the plane', so to speak. As much as she loves Tao, she chooses herself and her dreams of being an artist. And even though it hurt to see them kind of broken up, I think that was the right decision.

I'm choosing to believe they'll get back together eventually.

Another public service announcement. This time it’s air quality. Some of you are probably in it already if you’re in eastern Canada, New England or New York, but it’s sliding south, a huge mass of wildfire smoke. Please be careful. When it starts getting bad, especially, like when the sky gets orange or brownish, it’s best to run air purifiers in the house and wear N95 or KN95 masks when you have to go outside.

It harms your lungs and it’s especially bad for children (and pets!) or anyone with health problems. There are all kinds of chemicals in that smoke. It’s not only trees that are burning. The heat already makes it harder to breath. This makes it worse.

If any of you are experiencing it, feel free to tell about it in the comments. 💚

Also, throw out the mask every day and shower before you get in bed if you’ve been out or you’ll be breathing the particles all night. Stuff like that. It gets all over you, your skin, your hair, your clothes.

I know this map shows specific areas but as of July 16th I doubt it's accurate, all of Western PA is covered in smoke, so I expect it has shifted downwards

Smoke plumes shift a lot. The further east/southeast you are from these fires, the more drastic the shifting will be. And there will always be uncertainty because ironically, smoke can make it difficult for satellite systems to detect wildfires.
