Losses. This is an abandoned mining project in Basay, Negros Oriental, which looks deceptively pretty with the colors and all, but imagine what is in those ponds to give them that green sheen, and look at that one on the left that's darker, too. This is where copper mine CDCP used to operate, a site which they abandoned in 1984 when copper prices plummeted, without ensuring rehabilitation of the areas the mining project had affected. These ponds are always in danger of overflowing and adversely affecting communities around it. In 2016, 30 years since the mine closed, it was also found that the Pagatban River where this mine was dumping tailings still had a toxicity level 200 to 5,000 times higher than acceptable levels. This mining company did not put out a single cent to ensure the safety of the community and the rehabilitation of the environment it had destroyed. #GinaLopez was going to ensure that this would not be done to nation by irresponsible mines again. The members of Congress and the Senate had other things on their minds. #SecGina #miningPH #irresponsiblemining #mining #CommissionOnAppointments
