sometimes I think "I'm autistic but I'm not that autistic" but then something will happen like today:

Our new-ish executive director has gotten to know my coworkers over the last year, but I have heard he wants to interact with me more. I know this is because I keep things strictly professional because he's my great-grand-boss so therefore we have no reason to speak and personal questions are far too dicey, so I make sure we don't interact much.

Today he came into my office to chat and I, having heard that he wants to get to know me, offered one (1) personal anecdote from my childhood that was relevant to our conversation. I know I did well, because he responded by offering a personal detail about his sister, who is going through a divorce.

The conversation was very easy and to me, felt respectably transactional.

I'm not going to lie, though: nothing has ever made me feel so much like Spock in my entire goddamn life as much as trying to explain this situation to my partner.

Literally why is that the way I presented it??

Anyway: something something autism is actually pretty easy if you just learn social rules and commit them to memory and play every interaction like it's a game
